We booked the Highlights of Kilpisjärvi tour that included dog sledding and a snowmobile tour. Before we even got to Finland, Sinikka was a great help through email to get me booked. When we arrived at Sinikka and Martti’s home we were immediately welcomed in and provided warm suits and boots to put on.
First up was sledding with the huskies. They transported us via snow machine to a wilderness lake up near the Saana Fell. Once there, my girlfriend and I took turns driving the dog sled after receiving instructions. The 4 huskies were excited to get to work from the moment they were hooked up. We took a few spins around the lake and while one of us was driving the sled, the other rode in a sled behind the snowmobile to take pictures and hear interesting stories from Sinikka about the region and, of course, the generations of wonderful dogs and how they began offering this adventure.
After a few hours we returned to the house to switch over to the next activity. The winds were very high, so Sinikka suggested that we do the snowmobile tour the next morning instead. Mother Nature seldom cooperates with the itinerary, but luckily we could accommodate the switch so we did.
The weather the next day was perfect for the snowmobile tour. They provided clear safety instructions and after a little practice we set out to the 3 Country Cairn, making a couple stops along the way. Martti provided a hot beverage and told us history of the cairn and the area.
Not to speak negatively of tourists doing tourist things (obviously that’s what we are) but we prefer to explore on our own and have never really booked tours like this. However, a small group booking with local guides who live in and care about the community is definitely the way to go. It was just my fiancée and I on the tours and it was perfect. It felt like we were alone out there often times. We did see a large group of 15 or more snowmobiles go by and watched a couple tip one over and fall over. You just don’t get the same experience, or instruction and attention, in a group that large.
If you plan to visit the area; definitely book with Destination...
Read moreWe cannot recommend this experience enough!! Our experience was overwhelmingly positive from start to finish! We booked the snowmobiling adventure to visit the point where Norway, Finland, and Sweden meet.
Sinikka was highly communicative after booking and leading up to the experience. She was also incredibly gracious despite us not being the best communicators due to some internet troubles - when we arrived they were completely prepared for our adventure and were incredibly welcoming!
The experience was incredibly well executed. They provided gear that kept us warm and cozy the whole time. Knowing we were beginning snowmobilers, they also started the experience with a tutorial on driving a snowmobile, which settled all my nerves.
The adventure itself was amazing! We got to learn a lot of cool facts about the point where Finland, Norway, and Sweden meet. Visiting the actual site where the countries meet via snowmobile was a breathtaking, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Not only were the views of the mountains amazing, the experience was topped off with some hot berry juice as a perfect pick-me-up.
As first time travelers to Scandinavia, this was one of the highlights of our trip! If you’re considering booking, do it!! You won’t regret it...
Read moreSinikka was just amazing! she gave us a lesson before the husky ride and it was crystal clear what we had to do. the huskies were so happy to run this much that it made it completely worth it. She had 5 beautiful siberian huskies who were the happiest dogs on earth and the most cuddling ones as they would not stop asking to be petted! Thank you Sinikka for treating these creatures so nicely, it was really evident that the dogs have a nice life with you! The husky ride was the most arctic sport we did during our stay at Kilpisjarvi! the view of the lake...
