I've been to a number of weekly markets in a number of French villages over the years, but this is absolutely my favorite. Held in the old village and along branches of the Sorgue River, the setting is picturesque. In addition to the usual food, textile, pottery, and miscellaneous sellers, there is also a large antique sales area at the market. If you are fortunate enough to.be there in December, there is a Christmas market in progress as well. And many of the speciality stores in the village are open as well, unusual for a Sunday in this part of France. Yes, there are cheap (overseas) merchandise and a few knock offs here and there, but the majority of stands sell genuine French products at reasonable prices.

Read morePICTURESQUE French market. Spent a few hours taking in the scenery, eating pastries, drinking cafe, and shopping for produce, fruit, meat, cheese, flowers and even some simple clothing! We did not experience any high pressure selling whatsoever. We took home a roasted chicken and potatoes for dinner. Made a quick green bean and tomato salad with olive oil and lemon, all purchased at the market. Most vendors only take cash so be ready. Little English spoken but it was fun to practice our French. Parking can be tricky to find. Many vendors close up just past noon. We would...
Read moreWe were very much looking forward to seeing the market and we planned to go on a Sunday so we could also check out the antique market. Other reviews say, get there early...I cannot stress this enough!! We arrived in town at 930, took a half hour to find a parking spot (far away) so it was 10 by the time we entered the market. It was already busy but nowhere near as busy as it got! If you aren't into shoulder to shoulder crowds, stick with the lovely Malaucène market on Wednesdays. Same sorts of venders, been running for over 7 centuries and much more relaxed! Return to L'Isle-Sur-La-Sorgue to explore the town when the market is not on. All of it's charm and beauty gets lost and hidden by the vender...
