We had a fun and memorable experience at the Bergbahnstation Königstuhl in Heidelberg. We conveniently parked next to the hotel at Königstuhl and planned to ride the funicular both down and up. The way down was wonderfully smooth and relaxed—very pleasant indeed.

However, on the return trip uphill, we encountered significant crowds. The lines were quite long—some visitors reported waits exceeding 60 minutes, especially at the Molkenkur transfer station. We ended up taking bus line 30 to Sternwarte instead of waiting—and though it was efficient, I wish this waiting issue had been noted before purchasing a round-trip funicular ticket.

The ride itself was lovely—historic charm, scenic views (especially on the upper section), and the opportunity to explore the lovely surroundings at Königstuhl. I’d recommend going early in the day to avoid the worst queues.

Rating: 4 stars—great ride and convenience, but room for improvement in crowd management and clearer communication before ticket purchase.

Unser Besuch an der Bergbahnstation Königstuhl in Heidelberg war insgesamt sehr schön – eine spaßige und angenehme Erfahrung. Wir haben direkt neben dem Hotel am Königstuhl geparkt und wollten mit der Bergbahn sowohl nach unten als auch wieder hinauf fahren. Der Abstieg verlief super angenehm und entspannt.

Beim Rückweg bergauf jedoch stießen wir auf erhebliche Menschenmassen. Die Warteschlangen waren lang – laut anderen Besuchern können die Wartezeiten am Umsteigepunkt Molkenkur teils über 60 Minuten betragen. Wir haben uns schließlich entschieden, stattdessen mit Buslinie 30 zur Sternwarte zu fahren. Das war zwar eine effiziente Alternative, aber ich hätte mir gewünscht, dass man uns vor dem Kauf der Hin- und Rückfahrt-Tickets darauf hingewiesen hätte.

Die Fahrt selbst war reizvoll – historisch charmant, mit teilweise schönen Ausblicken, besonders auf dem oberen Streckenabschnitt, und tollen Möglichkeiten, die Gegend am Königstuhl zu erkunden. Ich empfehle, früh am Tag loszufahren, um den größten Andrang zu vermeiden.

Bewertung: Tolle Fahrt und bequeme Lage, aber Verbesserungspotenzial bei der Besucherstromsteuerung und transparenter Kommunikation vor...

Viel zu teuer/ mit Kinderwagen oder Rollstuhl eine Katastrophe!

Fährt man mit der Bergbahn bis ganz nach oben zum Königsstuhl, hat man einen tollen Ausblick über Heidelberg und die Rheinebene. Auch die Fahrt an sich ist für Kinder ein Erlebnis.

ABER: die Fahrt bis ganz nach oben zum Königsstuhl und zurück kostet pro Person saftige 14,- EUR. In Baden-Baden kommt man beispielsweise für gerade einmal 6,- EUR auf den Hausberg Merkur und wieder zurück ins Tal. Dazu ist die Preisgestaltung äußerst verworren. Zwei Erwachsene würden bis zum Königsstuhl und zurück ja eigentlich 28,- EUR bezahlen. Da kauft man doch gleich ein Familienticket. Das gilt für zwei Erwachsene und ein Kind, kostet aber nur 26,- EUR.

Überhaupt sollte man die Fahrt nur unternehmen, wenn man nicht auf einen Rollstuhl angewiesen ist oder Kinder hat, die noch nicht laufen können und deshalb im Kinderwagen mitfahren. Es gibt anders als bei anderen Bergbahnen keine Rampen, die einen barrierefreien mit Rollstuhl oder Kinderwagen zur Bahn ermöglichen. Es gibt zwar einen Rollstuhllift, aber ohne fremde Hilfe geht es nicht. Auch dürfen keine Kinderwagen mit dem Lift benutzt werden. Diese muss man sage und schreibe vier (!) Mal eine Treppe hochschleppen. Einmal an der Talstation, dann zwei Treppen an der Umsteigestation Molkenkur und dann an der Bergstation. Hinzu kommen die äußerst beengten Wagen der Bergbahn, die gerade bei viel Andrang recht voll mit Personen sind. Da darf man dann gerne auch mal die komplette Fahrt über stehen.

Fazit: einmal im Leben kann man da hoch. Mit Kinderwagen würde ich mir das aber...
