I love that people are complaining about kids. Isn't it a great sign that it's an attractive place for all levels and ages to play, learn, grow and use our bodies.
I loved watching the joy of kids. Recommend you to pause from the go-go-go of life and ambitions and take some time to soak up their pureness. Even the frustrated ones are so pure.
I also really really loved the boulders. I learned from interesting & fun boulders from 4(!) different colour levels. Kept coming off the wall saying "what a cool move". And then there are the black routes: loooooooooonggggg traversing. (just try parts of it if you are a bit lower level! highly recommend to just try!). Super unique. Super good technique training & endurance workout.
Nurnberg & Ehrlangen are a combines hotspot for inside bouldering. Wauw. Of the 5 gymns I tried I loved the variety of bouldering at Cafe Kraft the most. Close second is the fun playfull atmosphere at Blockhelden.
It does sound like we all need to be more strict. Kids are ok with rules and boundaries, as long as we adults teach them what they are, in a respectfull and calm way. It starts with the staff: maybe you should educate kids and parents better & be in the gymn mote. But it deffinetly continues with us, the adult climbing community. Teach them the (unwritten) rules. Help them learn a usefull, cool or fun move. Be worth the respect of our children.
And if you are (semi-)professional: use google maps & trial-and-error to find timeslots with fewer childish distraction.
Side note: authentic Japanese Most japanese restaurants are run by chinese. Which is fine, they know how to cook & run bussinesses! But! Nothing beats the subtlety of an authentic Japanese place. And Nurnberg has (at least) one :)
Go have lunch at Kome Kome on the weekend! Then climb hard at...
Read moreThis gym has a nice balance of climbing styles, though it generally tends towards a somewhat dynamic style. It has a reputation for being somewhat burly, but as a fairly technical climber I don't think this is entirely deserved; usually there are neat technical options available. One great thing about this gym is that they also offer traverse routes throughout the gym. In terms of features, there are a number of overhanging walls, and a few great slab walls (I'd say the slab wall near the entrance is my favorite slab wall in Nuremberg). Most of the gym has top out problems and that can feel a bit...
Read moreSeveral years back Café Kraft used to be a totally unique style which made you think outside the box. In between, especially after the pandemic, the routes got very repetitive and frankly boring. During the last year it’s gotten better again, but it’s still a bit of a dice roll. Sometimes there’s no route with an interesting crux, sometimes there’s 10 at once. Overall I feel like it’s a bit tougher than the other gyms, specifically on finger strength. If you’ve never been you should check it out, there’s a lot of interesting sectors with a good variety of slab and overhang no matter the current...
