The Tuesday Market is at Korle Gonnor a suburb of Accra. I happened to be there on a visit this 25th of June 2019. I sought and had the attention of the Leader of the market women. The Tuesday Market had being in place for over a Century (100years) now. Some customers are also people from other Regions. The Smoked Fish Market should have been the standing name if not for the original gathering of women of same profession on TUESDAYS at a particular PLACE. It is the only Smoked Fish Market in the Greater Accra Region. It is a Main Market and Walled with an Entrance but has no Gate and no security personnel, either day or night. The Stalls has waist level plastered bricks in construction. The market has a higher and strong continuous roofing over the entire stalls. It has a Washroom. At 1:25pm there began a rain showering and I found out that some parts of the market roofing leaked. There is no lighting system and no refuse container. The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has its personnel ticketing the sellers on a daily basis. Washroom is controlled or taken care of by the market women. Farmers of animal husbandry do come to the market to buy their raw materials for animal Feed. I took a photo of such a raw material which was in a basket. Smoked fish was not available on the day of my visit because of the Off Season imposed ban by the Government on fishing. The market women have an Association. The Executive membership is ten (10) including the woman I had conversation with who was actually the Secretary. The Executive meet once every month to deliberate on Business issues including the Welfare of the market women. There is a street that leads to the Entrance of the Tuesday Market. This street has sellers positioned alongside it. At the Entrance Area is a Corn Grinding Machine and a Cold Store. I took a photo of a young man who comes into the market periodically to sharpen knives of sellers. The sellers along the street sold everything found that can be found in a market of Accra except smoked fish. The Stores are at some distance behind the sellers. It was a Wet afternoon and I had to finally take shelter in a Kaneshie bound tro-tro which took off fifteen minutes later at 2:55pm and arrived at my destination at 3:20pm. Presently, the Tuesday Market women are always in the market and business booms on Mondays...
