Technically, this “spa” deserves five stars — not for quality, but for authenticity. It’s not a tourist trap, it’s pure, honest decay. A rare glimpse into what happens when absolutely no one has cared about hygiene or maintenance for a decade or so.
Twelve years ago, I visited a local hammam in a small Moroccan village — I thought that was basic. But at least they made you feel like a valued customer back then and natural rasoul soap was included in the price.
At Loutra Spa, handwritten signs and DIY posters are everywhere. A full-on Word- and ClipArt exhibition from 1995. It’s like someone decided “professional and clean” was just an optional aesthetic. Confusing pricing, broken facilities, random “out of order” notes and lack of hygiene for only 18 euro per person.
Sure, the sulfur smell is expected. But the lack of hygiene? The complete absence of any system separating muddy shoes from clean slippers? No dry room, only wet floors, when people still have their outdoor shoes on? That’s just nasty. The showers and toilets are run down. The steam room looks like it was built by a guy who once watched a single YouTube tutorial called “How to make a spa at home.”
The women’s changing room is a test of courage. Finding a spot that didn’t feel contaminated was an adventure. The shower curtain gave off strong prison vibes and then it literally fell down. At that point, you stop calling it relaxation and start calling it survival as you do not want to drop your piece of soap on the floor.
This is not a spa. Not a wellness center. At best, it’s a sulfur bath for people with medical conditions — except with the lack of care and hygiene, it’s actually a health hazard. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if you left with more infections than you came in with. Such a shame, because this could turn into an authentic gem, but instead it’s just a fossilized memory of what a...
Read moreEDIT 27/09/21: It’s the 3rd year in a row we visit this place and this time we was more than disappointed, so I’m explaining myself: As I mentioned in my initial review some things need more attention.
For me this year, seems like there was a problem with locks. The cabinets used for customers to leave there some of their belongings, have no keys in order to lock. So if you have something valuable with you, you must leave it on the car or somewhere else.
Also No locking mechanism in the toilet 😡. What’s wrong with you and locks guys?
Also, most faucets are almost tested apart. Yeah, I know that sulfur destroy them, but I guess that’s the reason for the fee. So that there are some resources to maintain the building.
You can have such a wonderful experience and it’s a pity to be overshadowed by these things.
Hoping the facility management will take care of all these 🙏.
Healing waters spa, overlooking the Aegean Sea from one of the most picturesque cliffs in Greece!
For me the 2nd best sunset after Caldera, Santorini.
6€ cost for 30 minutes in the pool.
Internal & external pools with lifeguard, sauna, hamam, hydromasaz, medical assistance. Also framed with hotels, rooms, bars & taverns.
Natural gushing waters from the depths of the earth, stimulates and rejuvenates the body and mind!
As they state in the fee receipt it’s the only boric hydrogen sulfide source, in simple words sulfuric sea 🚿.
Also good for numerous health problems such as arthritis and more.
Check out their website and contact them for more info!
Facilities have recently renovated but some things need some more attention.
All in all a really good experience! Definitely...
Read moreSuch a unique experience. I read on the previous comments that the lockers were not secured but they definitely are now. The staff is lovely, very friendly!! It's really cheap, only 6euros to use both indoors and outdoors pools. You can stay as long as you want but they recommend 30-45 mins max. It does smell of rotten eggs but that's very normal, it comes from the minerals which have various medicinal properties. You can read more about these on the website. I was a bit scared of the smell but you actually get used to it very quickly. It's really not that bad! Be careful not to drinks water and not have it in your eyes as it stings. I highly recommend sitting under the taps in the indoor pool, it makes an excellent massage. I've never felt more relaxed and feeling so good after!! Also stat for the sunset which is absolutely gorgeous. The view is incredible!! It's not a fancy spa though, that's not why you'd go there. It was clean although I was there in April which is low season so we were max 10 people which was lovely. Bring your shampoo and shower gel. You can loan a towel for 2 euros. I...
