The food is delicious, buuut the fact that they aggressively ask you to spend 25€/per makes the experience negative. I am during the christian orthodox fasting period, so between 1-15th August I eat vegan, but my husband does not. We went to the tavern because it was recommended, booked a table before, which one should do, as the place is usually packed. Because I was eating vegan, I ordered a mediteranean salad and olive paste, that you can imagine is not as pricey as ordering fish. My husband ordered a greek salad, calamari, tzatziki and beer, but looking at what the waiter was writing, I saw that he wrote down something extra - didn’t think much of it. Once the order was written down, the server, an older gentleman, began to be loud and aggressive and kept pushing the pen on the menu, so we can see that we need to order for minimum 50€. We asked how much the total is, the sun came up to 49,50 and he allowed it. Once the food was on the table, we got some zucchini balls, but sent it back because we did not order them. We could barely enjoy pur dinner because we were made to feel bad for not ordering enough. I just wanted to leave that place, which I would have from the start, but my poor husband was very hungry. I do not judge the restaurant for requiring 25€/pp, but the way it was enforced, was despicable - aggressive and by adding extras on our check. Yes, the zucchini balls were added without us ordering them and we had to pay them. As I stated, the food is delicios, I would encourage anyone to book a table, just keep in mind the...
Read moreWhat a terrific seafood restaurant here in Loutra, the wonderful 'time stood still' village where it is situated! You are very much welcomed to the point of being long-lost cousins! The menu is all fish and nothing but fish; fish caught in the morning, served at lunchtime. Olive oil, olives, and other local products are actually of their own produce. Excellent white wine also from local producers but very carefully selected. The variety of fish served here is simply incredible. The real taste of Greece. We've been coming here every year and are still amazed at the quality of everything that this place has to offer. The food is absolutely delicious and the staff is friendly and polite. It is definitely the best place to have dinner in Loutra.Good service and excellent choices in the menu, as usual. As starters, we had grilled haloumi, olives, and eggplant with feta and a hint of garlic. The main course of grilled octopus, grilled calamari, grilled shrimps, and grilled squid, succulent and cooked to perfection, was truly divine. The carafe of local white wine went down very well. The dessert is always offered: either an ice cream with a local type of fruit compote or traditional Greek honeyed sweets. It is a real feast for our senses in a wonderful setting. If you're looking for top quality, this is the...
Read moreWe got exactly what we were looking for, wanted a big tasty sea food platter and we were definitely served with one.
It's always important to set your expectations when you pick up a place based on what type of food you want to eat and the restaurant type.
If you want a fine dining evening experience you don't go to a tavern and vice versa if you're looking for local tasty food, big portions and affordable prices.
Captain Fish taverna is a typical Greek taverna, nothing fancy, located in the small sea village of Loutra and it's an excellent choice if you are looking for a sea food delight without paying too much.
We ordered a sea food platter (40 Euro), that comes with a big variety, shrimps, prawns, mussels, calamari, octopus and a few other types of fried/grilled fishes, all sitting on a bed of green salad. Additionally we ordered some fresh cut fries, these were also tasty.
Got nothing to comment negatively, food and service were excellent, price was fair.
Almost forgot... Dessert from the house (photo), common practice on the peninsula, also had a half-liter house wine, acceptable but not good really. In the end, we went for the seafood.
