Sandy Beach with a Great Vibe – Steno Bay, Astypalea
Another highlight of our trip to Astypalea! Soft, light sand, crystal-clear shallow water, and a relaxed atmosphere – for us, the best sandy beach on the island. The music is soft and chilled, there are two bars (a small one right on the beach and another with a stage further up the hill), plus a main building with clean restrooms.
Beautiful Ioanna runs the whole beach area, is friendly, quick, and always up for a laugh. When I arrived with my son looking for “our girls,” she just smiled and said, “Three blondes?” – and immediately knew where they were. Orders came fast, and the food was spot-on.
Even though the beach was quite busy, there were still free parking spaces. If you want to be on the safe side, maybe it’s worth reserving sunbeds for the next day. Prices for drinks and food are fair, the loungers (price 10€ second row) are comfy, and there’s plenty of natural shade.
If you’re after total silence, you might prefer another spot – this is probably the right place for people looking for a beach party that lasts into the night (?), even we haven't tried it. It was crowded during the day, but the sound was cozy and without noise.
But you should definitely check out Steno Bay at least once! Maybe you...
Read moreWe came to this beach as a run for me and a good walk for my partner. After swimming etc we came for food and how I wished we hadn't, a pretty big menu so we went for a Greek salad and a couple of glasses of wine. The wine was poured out of unlabelled plastic, looked like water, bottles no idea what it was and if it was homemade or what. The Greek salad looked nice but upon starting I found a lump of brown stale bread in it, maybe a mix of Greek and panzanella salad? Anyway it looked horrid and tasted no better, I kept getting bits of bread and I truly didn't like it. To be fair the wine tasted okay but my partner wouldn't have it as they were concerned about its safety. The chair I sat on the rattan seat was broken and so a rug had been put on it, the whole thing wobbled, the table was sturdy enough. To me it just looked sad and the poor young woman working the "bar" was seriously unhappy and I...
Read moreThey have placed chairs almost inside the sea. According to the Greek law the sunbeds and any other kind of furniture should be at least 5 meters from the sea. The people working at the beach bar had the audacity to demand from us to ask them to remove the chairs and don't move them by ourselves. This is illegal and they know it. You can report this by using the application "mycoast" where a citizen can report all the beach-bar occupying space they are...
