A very long-cherished dream finally set sailâfrom the Edakochi Boat Yard to Alappuzha aboard our newly built houseboat hull. Though equipped with only the room frame and basic amenities, the journey through the National Waterway was deeply fulfilling. We navigated using green and red buoys, maintaining a steady speed of 15â20 kmph, and reached Alappuzha in about six hours.
In some stretches, missing or damaged buoysâoften misused as mooring pointsâposed minor challenges. Itâs a gentle reminder of the importance of preserving these vital navigational aids.
Grateful to Jos for accommodating us on his Kalapurackal boat. Along the way, we even sourced arecanut trees from Kumarakom for the roof structureâadding a rustic touch to the build.
