I attended the Student Survival week long cooking classes. I have to say I'm really happy with my experience at the classes, the environment is really friendly and encouraging which was important to me, being a beginner in the kitchen. The staff is really sweet and the studio is very well equipped with the best and latest tech/cooking equipment. We even got to try cakes and sweets from the baking courses. The instructors and qualified and experienced. Looked forward with excitement for the class each day of the week. My only complaint is for the class to be a little more hands on i.e maybe we could prepare each vegetable for the dish as a group and then proceed to make the dish, and more student-centric dishes that use inexpensive/just a few ingredients or can be made in a rice cooker etc. as students are usually strapped for cash and time. This review is my experience with a class and might not be a reflection of all classes at food hall. I attended the laminated pastry class, I did not enjoy the experience at all. The class was from 9am to 3pm, we were not offered refreshments on arrival, no lunch breaks, not enough items were made to take home with us and we wernt even provided takeaway boxes! The price of the course is Rs 5500, I am not sure what the cost was added into because we wernt even given out own materials to work with. The chef/instructer gathered 7 of us around one table and demontrated each pastry. We dint do much except watch and cut some pastry or provide an egg wash. I expected a more hands on class. The attitude of the instructer was poor as she did not actively participate in the class to make it more interesting, she stuck to her work without much interaction with the students. I recently attended a class for Cold Soups and Summer Salad by Chef Manpreet Dhody and yes it was worth it. Loved the presentation, materials provided, fresh ingredients and hands on help with chefs around to guide and help with everything we required. Chef Dhody has an easy going relaxed attitude which helps people relate to her and get on cooking. This being my first time to a cooking class like this I'm sure there would be many more coming up soon for me. It simply got me interested to try and experiment more.
