John Hardy Workshop & Kapal Bamboo Boutique at Mambal — Local services in Pulau Bali

I attended the amazing Master Class excursion to John Hardy’s Workshop at Kapal Bamboo Boutique in Mambal Village, from my hotel, Alila Seminyak.

Upon arrival I was greeted by Putu and her hospitality would represent the entire day. Putu gave me a guided tour of the production, and it’s just so cool to see in person, the care and detail that goes into each and every piece, by hand!!

During this immersive experience, I had the privilege of working closely with highly skilled artisans, witnessing their meticulous craftsmanship that goes into creating awe-inspiring handmade pieces.

Sulis was the hostess for the class with the biggest smile and best laugh! She was patient and caring in teaching me or trying to bring out my artistic creative side! Kuya the wax master is a genius (with the best laugh and smile too) and can turn a brick of wax in magical beauty. I will cherish “our” wax design and memory of making it together. Plus, I got an amazing pencil with his wood work design. Nike the designer was able to turn my stick figures scribbles into something beautiful that I would want to wear. She made my honey bee vision reality.

I was able to partake (and I mean fully welcomed with open hearts and arms) in John Hardy’s renowned Long Table Lunch, which was traditional Balinese feast (!!) and was able to meet and lunch with the vibrant community of artisans and staff.

What an amazing experience!!

And of course I had the help of Putu to make a jewelry purchase so I can always remember my trip to Bali!!

I went there without knowing the brand, just to visit the workshop and I must admit that the experience exceeded my expectations. Initially I was impressed with the kindness of the people who guided me in the shop, their continuous smile, their care and attention to my needs. I took some time to admire the amazing design of the shop which is blending so well with the nature around it. Combined with the interior design, the products in the shop made me feel like I was walking in a jewelry museum, the unique designs are a proof of the talent and passion of the people working there. Even though I loved the products in the shop, the tour of the workshop is what I appreciated the most, I would definitely recommend it if you have one hour to spare. The happiness of the people in the workshop, their enthusiasm, the joy of creating together something special was so visible. After walking around with my wonderful guide that explained every step of the creation process and understanding how much manual work and how many hands and hearts are touching every piece, I value even more the products that I bought. I had the pleasure of visiting John Hardy's workshop in Bali, and it was an unforgettable experience. Nestled in the heart of lush forests, the workshop offers a serene and tranquil atmosphere, perfectly reflecting the brand's deep connection to nature. You can truly see where the inspiration for their exquisite jewelry comes from—an elegant fusion of Bali’s centuries-old traditional craftsmanship with modern design.

Our guide, Puri, took us through the workshop and explained the intricate process behind each piece. It was fascinating to learn how every item is handmade and meticulously polished by skilled artisans. The craftsmanship and attention to detail made me appreciate the beauty of John Hardy’s jewelry even more.
