I thought a lot about whether or not to write this review but in the end felt it important to share our experience. We arrived to our booking 10 mins late which was our own fault but I don't think it was deserving of the wall of hostility we were met with from arrival. As our party was 3/4 vaccinated we were given two options for seating. Option one was to get soaked under a failing canopy option 2 was to sit in an empty and cold concrete "bike shed" as far away from the hustle and bustle as possible. We were however offered blankets which I appreciated. No longer than 5 mins after being seated we were asked by three different members of staff for our order. One woman phrased it "can I take your order now while I'm here" suggesting she did not want to have to walk out our direction again. My partner said he was not quite ready yet and before he finished his sentence she had thrown her eyes up to heaven and stormed off leaving us both speechless and feeling very uncomfortable. We did not see this woman again until she was finished her shift and walked past commenting on how miserable it was out in our seating area. The starters are the only reason I'm giving a star at all. The mussels and the blue cheese tart were divine. What followed was exceptionally average. Starters were cleared and the mains arrived almost instantly suggesting the kitchen was eager to leave and this presented itself in the over cooked ray wing which I assume had been left under the grill or a heat lamp for far too long, the bottom fillet however was nice. The pork belly was not what I had expected as for me good pork belly consists of a textural difference between the meat the lovely fat and the crispy crackling. This was not the case and the whole dish was very monotextural and the accompanied sides didn't match either dish. The sauce on the pork was quite nice. In contrast to the starters being cleared immediately, once our mains were delivered to us we were completely forgotten about. The finished main dishes were left in front of us until we left. No one came around to ask if we wanted another drink or indeed to enquire if we enjoyed our meal. However the waiter Richard who settled up with us was very nice as was the waitress with pink hair apologies for not getting her name. I will not be visiting this establishment again and I certainly will not be recommending. I understand that there is added pressure and stress on business due to the covid measures but that is no excuse to treat us the way that they did. We were physically shaken by our experience and neither of us are sensitive souls. This is my first bad review and I hope...
Read moreWe like to think of ourselves as very easygoing diners but after an hour of receiving no food and minimal attention by the wait staff, we asked for the team to be more attentive to our table. The owner/manager completely dismissed our concerns and told us they were simply too busy. Please note that we made our reservation months in advance. After waiting over an hour and still not receiving any food, we decided to leave and seek dinner elsewhere. The owner/manager was not apologetic at all. There are so many good options in Westport. I recommend you take your business elsewhere.
Update: Our reservation was at 7:30 and we arrived at 7:25. I appreciate the review of the timing of our experience but this important piece of information was omitted. According to your times, we waited almost 40 minutes to have our order taken and were at the restaurant for 1 hour having received 2 beers...
Read moreStopped on a whim, and we were lucky enough to get a table because of a cancellation. Had a gorgeous view over the water from the front of the bar, and the food hit the spot in terms of seafood gastropub summertime. Mussels, oysters, fish, steak, chicken - the menu stayed pretty classic with some interesting vegetarian options adding something a bit different. (Tuscan bean stew was one option!).
Small but good wine menu and some cocktails to get started. Rounded out our day in Westport and the surrounding coastline just perfectly.
Casual style service, which was what we were looking for. Busy place with three evening sittings, so we didn't linger long with our table but would have been amazing to have the 9pm sitting and watch that sunset come in over the bay....
