Apparently the start of this is really easy to find. However, we spent 3 hours trekking the down route. There’s contruction work at the moment and orange fencing along the route which has confused the starting point (we found others and weren’t the only ones lost!) To get to the start you have to walk the full way along the orange fencing. Do not be tempted to take one of the paths that lead left to the crag. The route is actually pretty well sign posted if you don’t try cutting in too early. We came back the next day to start again!
It’s a really fun route that is quite tough in places as the rock is quite polished. If you can lift yourself up on your arm strength you can get out of the difficult area pretty quickly but you do have to use the railing for your hands. Would recommend not doing this on the first day of your holiday as we gained a fair few blisters on the ascent (we were wearing fingerless via ferrata gloves) maybe tape would have helped or longer gloves?!
There’s an emergency exit route after the first difficult section if you do find it too hard.
Views are beautiful! The descent through the forest path is rather nice. We came out by Ranzo, if you can find the big crucifix and head towards the little church. Go around the church you’ll find a route down that’s quicker than the road. The whole thing took us about 5 hours with a short...
Read moreA beautiful and sometimes demanding via ferrata. Great views of Lake Toblino. But due to the really poor signs from parking (in both directions) I can't give this beautiful route more than 4 stars. By far the biggest burden of the route was finding the via ferrata itself, and from there to the parking lot. It was also written some sites that you can start by driving the car to the Rocol bar and starting the route from there, but this option didn't open up for us either, even though we passed the bar on the way back.
The difficulty of the route; the beginning is the most demanding part for sure, the other slightly more demanding part comes later. But the fact that this route has reportedly been one of the most challenging ferratas in the Alps did surprise us. Personally, I wouldn't give it an E review, D would be better in my opinion. Sure, this route requires upper body strength, etc. But for us, this was the easiest "E-marked" via ferrata in the Alps. PS, Don't go in the rain / right after the rain, and also remember to wear good climbing gloves. I would suggeat that you load this ferratas gpx route to your...
Read moreAmazing, challenging & exposing route. Finding the start of the route is a challenge in itself so I would recommend downloading a GPX file beforehand! Climbing experience not a must but definitely useful, I would say you have to be in good shape and fit as it is an intense climb in sections where there is little footholds (almost rock climbing). There is also a fair bit of loose rocks so don't be silly - wear a helmet. I would definitely recommend it for those who have some via ferrata experience and are up for a challenge. One of Italy's...
