This place looked very appealing on their website. It was a disappointment in every way. Rooms rather shabby, however, it was evident that in the past, the building had been well looked after and care had been taken over the furnishings. ||On close inspection it was dirty. The fridge had mould in it and leaked water, there was a piece of pancetta in the kitchen sink, floors had not been washed. Couldn't find an electric socket that worked. Left the apartment and went into Frascati for dinner. No mean feat, as it is impossible to park anywhere near the centre.||On our return we had trouble getting the apartment door to open, and whilst struggling, listened with fascination to a domestic argument coming from the next door apartment (our Italian is basic, but it seemed that they worked in the vineyards, so they may well still be there) We lay in bed unable to sleep as the argument gathered pace. Their baby woke up and joined in. It was now approx 3am, the argument had turned nasty and it sounded as if they were demolishing the building. We decided to get up and leave.||Just to cap it all, the shower came off the wall soaking every area of the bathroom.||We couldn;t get away fast enough.||My husband rang the agent the following day and explained why we had left. Da tempo pensavo di visitare questa tenuta. Me ne avevano parlato come un bel posto dove andare per una passeggiata e per un buon pranzo. Ma la Tenuta di Pietra Porzia è molto di più.

L'ingresso sembra un piccolo cancello che si affaccia su una bellissima valle di vigneti e oliveti. Si estende su 52 ettari, immersa, si fa per dire, in quello che in tempo era il Lago Regillo, uno dei laghi che si sono formati dopo le eruzioni vulcaniche e successivamente prosciugatosi. Qui si tenne la battaglia del Lago Regillo, avvenuta si pensa, tra il 496 e il 499 a.c. La legenda narra che i romani per vincere, chiesero aiuto ai Dioscuri, Castore e Polluce. Regillo sembra collegarsi alla presenza di un adiacente tempio di Giunone Regina ed infatti, proprio nella tenuta, si trovano sparsi resti di questo tempio. È stata proprietà di Marco Porzio Catone, poi dei Colonna e Borghese, quindi della camera apostolica che verso la fine del 1800 vendette alla famiglia Giulini, attuali proprietari.

I loro vitigni sono diversi, come il Frascati doc ed il Frascati superiordocg, che crescono su oltre 30 ettari su terreno vulcanico, figli della Malvasia del Lazio, il Greco e Lecinaro, un vitigno autoctono del Lazio, di recente riscoperta. Oltre al vino, anche l'olio extravergine, frutto della spremitura a freddo di cultivar come il Leccino e la Rosciola, olio che esportano prevalentemente in Giappone.

Ma come faccio a sapere queste cose?

Perché abbiamo avuto il piacere di ascoltarle dal gentilissimo Marco Selvi, enotecnico, che ci ha raccontato la storia ed il presente della Tenuta.

Abbiamo visitato la cantina moderna dove producono con pazienza e sapienza i loro vini in vasche di acciaio a temperatura temperata. Vini come il Roma Rosso Doc Lecino ed il Frascati Doc Regillo, che abbiamo gustato a fine visita.

Ci ha condotto nell'antica cantina scavata nel tufo, di oltre 2000 anni, che si sviluppa per oltre 400 metri, dove anticamente conservavano il vino in botti di legno.

Dopo la visita, iniziata alle 11:30, abbiamo proseguito attraversando il viale di cipressi, fino a salire verso l'agriturismo e godere di una vista senza fine, su tutta l'area delle coltivazioni della valle in cui si espande. L'agriturismo è elegante, con piscina ed un bel portico. Intorno alberi di ulivo potati quasi come grandi bonsai, e fiori che colorano l'intenso verde che circonda il tutto, nel silenzio del luogo.

Abbiamo mangiato molto bene. Una cucina tradizionale, semplice e con ingredienti di qualità e tutti strettamente di origine Laziale.

Bello scoprire realtà come queste. Persone che si dedicano con passione a fare sempre il meglio oggi, tenendo sempre un occhio alla tradizione.

We are currently staying at this Agritourismo villa. It looks very nice as you approach it and in a lovely setting BUT what a disappointment. We have stayed in three other Agritourismo places during our month in Italy which have been amazing||We arrived here yesterday having booked in to find the place deserted so we drove around and returned. They were just getting ready for a childrens birthday party so no peace to relax after our journey||Breakfast this morning was very poor. Cakes and packeted spreads/ jams but no bread or anything to spread it on. Cereals but no milk.||We have returned after a day out to find our bed unmade, room not serviced and no one here. We cannot even access the swimming pool and we came back for a swim. We would checkout and find somewhere else but we cannot...
