Nice private beach club. We were visiting Ostia for a few days and chose this one based on reviews and photos. What other tourists should know is that this club, and many others in the area, primarily cater to groups/families that rent there for an entire summer. There are a small number of chairs with and without umbrellas for day visitors, put in less desirable positions. This explains some of the other reviews - it’s not because you aren’t Italian, it’s just the beach club’s policy to keep all the other umbrellas and chairs for summer subscribers and the staff were really only able to explain this well to us in Italian, as most have limited English. On a Saturday in early June, all the umbrellas available for day use had sold out by about 1 pm, and it didn’t seem like a busy day.
The facilities themselves are nicely maintained including bathrooms, captive animals like tortoises, birds and koi, extensive play area and activities for children, a really clean beach and nice chairs. Restaurant is both tavola calda (cafeteria style) or sit down menu, food was only okay but service very friendly. Snack bar available as well. Pool was closed (as of June 1 2024) likely as it was too cold.
We had paid for an umbrella and two chairs but weren’t happy with the location close to a walkway and children’s play area. With some difficulty due to non-engaged staff and our limited Italian, we were able to instead change to two chairs seaside (no umbrella possible here). Disadvantage to seaside is it had considerably more wind which wasn’t a dealbreaker for us, and we were much happier with...
Read moreWent to this beach for 1 day as the pictures I found online made it look very nice. It was indeed a very nice beach to spend the day at. There was a kids club with activities listed on a board, including games of table tennis and table football. It was slightly more expensive than other beaches we visited, but the price difference could be justified from the point of view of the cleanliness and facilities available. We had lunch at the restaurant ("tavola calda") and the food was very, very nice. The price wasn't too expensive either. What let the beach down for us was the sand right by the sea. I understand that adding pebbles on the sand avoids the sea moving the sand excessively during winter storms, but it makes it more difficult to enter the sea bare-footed. Not all beaches in Ostia have added pebbles on their shoreline, so those that have, in my opinion, have made the swimming in the sea experience worse.
PS: the beach has a small swimming pool, mainly for kids to use, where a swimming cap is necessary (no...
Read moreQuite surprising how difficult it is to just pay for 2 sun beds at a beach resort that has hundreds free. Myself & 2 family members arrived at the Tibidabo beach resort asking to pay for a sunbed, and the immediate response was “finished”. This was at 10am in the morning, and we asked could we not pay to use any of the hundreds of free sunbeds and they just said “finished” and shrugged. So we had to move on, as we walked along the beach they had literally hundreds of free beds and they would not give us one. I would assume that it’s because we’re tourists, all the ones in use seemed to be used by Italians (as they were speaking Italian). I know some beds are reserved for members, but they have a sign at the entrance that you can pay for sunbeds, loungers etc but they just didn’t want to sell them to us as we’re tourists. Really disappointing as we only had a few hours to spend at the beach and it’s proved very difficult to just relax...
