The train glides beside orange groves and temple roofs. Kokawa breathes with devotion — pilgrims walking the old roads toward Kokawadera Temple, wind bells chiming in the eaves.

Tourist Tip: Visit Kokawadera, one of the Saigoku 33 temples (10 min walk). Stop at local sweets shops selling handmade mochi. Best visited in spring or...
