Stayed in this hut with my wife and we really loved it!

What you first need to know is to read the rules and terms before booking. They have been very clear on the check-in times, inclusions, risks etc so I don't know what the reviewer is complaining about the bento rice balls

We were greeted and treated well, and the food is delicious. Grilled fish by the hearth was superb --- very clean tasting and easy to eat. The soba is amazing with a good bite and balanced broth. The dinner and breakfast set meals were very filling and balanced. You will have to pay extra for coffee, but the tea is overflowing. Beer is naturally refrigerated by the local spring

The room is your usual tatami and is very spacious for 2 pax. The walls are your standard JP thickness, they provide an extension cord for uour gadgets and the WiFi is very fast. Restrooms are clean and relatively modern but there is no washlet which is consistent with any other mountain lodges. Some of their staff can speak in English. As listed in their site, be mindful of the check-in time which is only up to 4pm. Anything beyond that you need to inform them ahead of time as some of their staff are not stay-ins and that they might worry about your situation given the risks that the mountain can present

All in all, a great hostorical place to stay in with great food and service. They do what they can and compensate for...

I'm so sorry to say that this is the first bad experience in Japan, the country well know by the good manners of their people. I travel and adapt a lot, I hike/climb often and I have visited a lot of shelters and huts becouse I love mountains and I deeply wanted to discover the Japanese alps. I was never treated so bad in a shelter. We arrived in the evening completely wet due to heavy rain and the welcoming was just a lady who immediately asked to pay the accommodation, in cash. We could not even dry ours clothes, they didn't even ask if we might need a towel.

After the explaination of the home-rules they ask if we might want a bento or a pick up Lunch for day after. We said yes: 800 yen each. We agreed.

I don't want to waste my holiday time to write a bad review, but I just open the Lunch pack and find out they just give us onigiri with just rice. 1600yen for 4 bals of rice. We are quite disappointed. I don't mind to pay 20.000 yen per night but the rude treatment and the packed "lunch" were unacceptable. I came here with good vibes and spirit and went away with bitter taste feeling like we were not welcomed at all.

We are foreign but we are polite, clean, gentle. This was the first time we felt treated 'differently' during our trip.

That being said, some of the stuff was still nice. But this doesn't changed our perception and feels.

Hope things will improve...
