Sea Captain — Local services in Onna

I already resigned myself to not being able to find a kayaking tour for the next day which was not already full and accepted foreigners, when I happened to walk along the beach and see Kinjo-san's kayaks. I googled the place - and hooray, they accepted reservations over phone until 9 pm the day before 🥳

It turned out that other people cancelled their reservation, so it was like a private tour for only me! I had my own kayak which allowed me the freedom that I wanted. Kinjo-san was very chill, you can tell he is an adventurer at heart, which is exactly what I wanted, not a heartless conveyor tour.

After kayaking to the Blue Cave across beautiful deep blue sea, we went snorkelling in the cave, which was not yet very crowded in the morning. After the cave came my favourite part of the tour: instead of kayaking back straight away we snorkelled for part of the way back for what felt like half an hour. There was no one around us except for the fishes in the sea, absolutely stunning! I could explore the corals at my own pace.

When we reached the shore, I took a quick shower and was treated to coffee and banana while enjoying the view of the sea and the sound of sanshin. Kinjo-san was very kind to drive me to my next destination, and we even grabbed lunch together along the way.

I did a wonderful kayaking and snorkeling trip to a private island. It was one of the best snorkeling excursions I've ever done! The customer service was incredible. The views were goregous. There were so many fish and coral to see. Plus we got to do a decent amount of kayaking and have a tea party with homemade cakes on the beach. I would highly recommend this tour/company...

２０１０年の5月の終わり頃。日差しの強い真夏日にシーカヤックを利用しました。宿泊していた北谷町にあるビーチタワーホテルからシーキャプテンに向け出発。まだ土地勘がなくてシーキャプテンは直ぐ近くと勘違い。結局、大幅に遅刻。出発時間を見誤ったところに58号線を北上中に交差点で大事故があり、一次通行止め。シーキャプテンへ到着が1時間遅れ。同時間に予約していた大学生グループが時間を融通してくれて、到着してから一緒に出発。3人組みの大学生にしっかり謝ると、もの凄く感じよく｢今日は飛行機で帰るだけなんで全然良いですよ｣と笑顔で返してくれた。シーキャプテンのオーナーに連れられ仲良し同僚と大学生と共に初カヤック。真栄田岬までキラキラと眩しい水面を眺めながらオールを漕ぐ。結構、なれるまで難しい。力まずオールの面を意識しながら。やっとついた真栄田岬の鍾乳洞で少し休憩をして、そこでシーキャプテン特性の手作りマフィンを頂きました。そのマフィンが今も僕のマフィン史上で一番美味しかった。沖縄のキレイな海の横であまりにも美味しいとモグモグ食べる僕を見たオーナーが自分の分を僕にくれて、それも一瞬で食べてしまったのを今も覚えていますよ。僕の1つのほろ苦い大切な思い出は今もシーキ...
