Hamanoya Restaurant — Restaurant in Onna

Terrible, recommend avoiding. I’ve been to Japan dozens of times and food in Japan is generally excellent but this is just plain bad food and the worst restaurant in Japan I’ve eaten at. I saw a box in the trash outside of the restaurant that the lobster came in. KC brand from the US...cooked whole spiny lobster so if you were hoping for fresh lobster this is not the place. Needless to say we passed on the lobster. The fish that my wife ordered was rubbery and flavorless. It tasted like cheap frozen whitefish. The fruit cocktail in the lunch set was clearly of the canned variety. The kids lunch set was an assortment of deep fried junk. A chicken nugget, battered deep fried shrimp (much darker than the tempura that another person ordered), a corn dog, and a small hamburger patty. I have no idea how this place has a 4.3 rating with over 920 reviews. If I could give it less than 1 star I would. There are so many other places to eat where the food is good and they take pride in the food that they are serving. Unfortunately this is not one of...

It was still a bit crowded when i got there. I was surprised cause it was already 2pm. I didn’t wait long to get a table in the tatami room. It’s comfortable enough with Hori-Gotatsu table. We studied the menu and decided to order by pressing the button to call the waitress. The lady came with hatse she was very nice and friendly. However, she was using a small tablets like a phone to take our order. The tablets was so small she could hardly see!!! My wife was helping her a bit 🤭. It was so funny. 😁 We had fried whole fish, uni sauce lobster and rib-eye steak. The whole fish which was a snapper was fried to perfection! The steak was juicy with super tasty garlic sauce in a hot pan. I wasn’t impressed with the lobster uni sauce it wasn’t my thing 😢 . We didn’t order any drinks but the free flow barley tea. It was a bit loud because of tourist but verything else...

Stopped by here for dinner and ordered seafood donburi and thought it was mediocre. I decided to come back again and try their prime rib steak since I had seen it pass by my table many times. It looked delicious! I get my prime steak and it is blue rare, although I asked for medium rare... I told the waiter if the cook could cook it a little more, he came back to me and said it was medium rare... And so I said if he could cook it a little longer... So the cook went back and cooked the hell out of it. He probably put a flat iron on it and then just cooked it until it was well done. I got the steak back pancaked and over cooked... The food here is mediocre, the service, well just don't piss...
