【忍者屋敷のような昭和レトロ旅館】
Hidden away just a few minutes’ walk from the station, Suigetsu Ryokan is an old-school gem that feels like stepping into a bygone Osaka. I stayed here for three nights during cherry blossom season, when hotel prices were soaring, and this family-run ryokan was a rare, reasonable find.
The building itself is a maze of creaky floors, hidden staircases, and narrow corridors that feel straight out of a ninja movie set. My room (No.1) came with a private toilet— a rare luxury here — and was spotlessly clean, simple, and surprisingly spacious. No frills, but full of personality.
The elderly proprietress, a classic Osaka obasan with more heart than filter, welcomed me with a few chuckles and some light confusion over my Japanese skills. Her daughter smoothed things over with gentle grace, and the interaction made me feel more like a houseguest than a customer.
No meals are included, but local eateries nearby offer a taste of real Osaka, and I had a lively night chatting with locals who found my choice of lodging delightfully unexpected. Light sleepers: bring an eye mask — the morning sun is punctual.
It’s not for everyone, but if you appreciate authenticity and want something different from cookie-cutter hotels, Suigetsu Ryokan offers warmth, charm, and an unforgettable sense of place.

The key at my room was fine, though. The rooms are Japanese style so there is no bed but Futon (Japanese-style bedding). Toilet and bath are communal. Low budget. There is a toll parking next to this guest house, but the road...
