Tohoku Gakuin University, established in 1886, by founders Masayoshi Oshikawa, W.E. Hoy, and D.B. Schneder, is the leading Christian university in the Tohoku (northeastern Japan). Now in its 137 th year, the university has brought it's once three campuses, under central, administration, at its recently opened magnificent downtown site.
By agreement, I met Mr. Satoshi Hino, university trustee and archivist, in front of the famed stained glass wall (pictured) at the Sendai train station. (NOTE: For more details and background information about the stained glass window, please visit my post entitled "Sendai Tanabata Festival.") Then, we took the subway to the university's new downtown location. There, Mr. Hino, introduced me to University President Mr. Haruki Onishi, a staunch supporter of the preservation of past missions work as well as advocate of future missions endeavors throughout northeastern Japan. This appointment allowed for the opportunity to review a few highlights of the Schroer and Kroehler missionary work across the Tohoku.
Following my visit with President Ohnishi, we walked a few blocks away to the Tohoku Gakuin University Archives Office. which is located just below the university chapel, where worship services are held each day. The archives house the extensive records about the activities of past as well as ongoing missions activities.
These encounters opened the door for future missions related opportunities.

Read more白を基調としたとてもきれいなキャンパスです。プロテスタント系のキリスト教の大学で礼拝堂も立派です。山の上にあり泉中央からも八乙女からも歩いていくには少し遠いです。バスは出ています。ここは国家試験などの受験地になることが多いので、特に受験生が少ないと東北地方ではここだけとなることがあります。仙台市ですが旧泉市なので、市の北の方で富谷や利府寄りです。試験会場として利用する場合、試験が午前中からであれば、仙台駅からもそれなりの距離なので市内に前泊して体調を整えてから試験に望むことをおすすめします。 アクセスは土樋キャ...
