We had a really good time at shinpachiya on this trip! Stayed for 2 nights and the nights includes 2 breakfast and 2 dinner, they’re all really good food. I totally reccomend visiting toba and stayed at shinpachiya if you’re looking for a onsen ryokan experience in a japanese small seaside town.

Things to love: Food was really good, abundant amount of fresh local seafood and local rice also. For us, each night were different menu so it was fun! Our host was really friendly and patience, the staffs are all so nice and friendly also. Onsen were super nice. The public one is big enough for everyone and the private one has a nice tub and view. The water was so smooth also! The view from our room was amazing since it faces the sea side. There’s a lot of local birds around also (we love birdwatching). Service is amazing, we feel pampered. Their ume-chu was really good, you can ask for iced one also. Shuttle bus goes 2 times in the morning and in the evening, so it’s easy to get downtown.

Information for English speaking visitors: The room with the private onsen is on the 1st floor so if you’re aiming for a nice view, it’s probably not the best for you Shuttle bus goes from the Toba station at 3:30 pm and 4:40 pm. Also the car has no English letters so you’ll want to remember the ryokan names in Japanese I totally recommend to get a general read on how traditional onsen ryokan works so it’s not awkward for both you and the host They only speaks Japanese so a bit of Japanese knowledge will be nice, but our friend’s Japanese level is a beginner level and it was enough to generally understand them The staff will make your bed after dinner and in the morning also so you don’t need to do it yourself If you want to book the private onsen, you’ll want do it at 4:30pm (before dinner) and 8:00pm (after dinner) Breakfasts and dinners will be in room. Most of the food will be seafood based since Toba is a huge fishing and oyster town Weekends are busy with local tourists but on quiet days you can go to the public onsen in the morning and have it to yourself (onsen goes from 6:00 am - 10:30 pm) Prepare cash! Cash is still king in Toba for almost everything. There’s an ATM though at...

We had a room on the fourth floor and it was amazing. They provided fresh seafood in dinner and breakfast meals, all the staffs were amazingly polite and helpful. As we do not drive, we emailed them to check if there was a shuttle bus and there is! The ryokan provides a bus service twice a day (9,10am) to Toba Station and from Toba station to the hotel (3.30,4.30pm). We missed the shuttle bus from Toba due to delays and the manager came to save us at 6+pm. They thanked us for coming all the way to their ryokan but it is us who have to thank them for an amazing stay. We didn't get to use the private onsen due to our late check in but tried the public one, it was amazing even though it was like 10pm haha. The outside onsen view was still pretty cool and the area was kept clean. Free massage chairs outside the onsen. Dinner is served about 7pm, breakfast about 7 or 8am. The sun rises before 6am so we missed it :( Slept on the floor bedding and it was warm and comfortable. Dinner was like 15+ courses with fresh and cooked seafood(sashimi, crab, clam, octopus, prawn, sea urchin, fish etc) , beef sukiyaki soup, rice and dessert, a meal like that in my country would cost as much as 1 night in the ryokan haha. After reading other reviews, I think if you booked the private onsen in your room, you will get the 1st floor rooms that don't have much of a sea view, the 3rd and 4th floors have better views. We went to Ise Jingu and the Married Rocks after, bus from Toba station was super easy to figure out. We had many delays and the ryokan staff were understanding, doing their best to use Google Translate to communicate with us and going out of the way to make us feel welcome. I'm already planning my next trip with my family there. Loved it!! Thank you for an...
