沖縄県うるま市にある離島です 那覇空港から沖縄自動車道を利用して1時間40分、与勝半島にある海中道路から平安座島、宮城島を経由した最奥の島になります 電車は走っていないので、バスを乗り継ぐか車で伺うかのどちらかしか手段はありません

県内屈指の透明度を誇る伊計ビーチや大泊ビーチ、ガジュマルトンネル、縄文時代末期の集落跡である仲原遺跡、沖縄の伝統的な石垣や赤瓦の家々が立ち並ぶ伊計島集落、CMで一躍有名となった角川ドワンゴさんが運営するN高等学校など見どころ満載のちいさな島です

集落にしても遺跡にしても整備された駐車場はありません 私はたまたま伊計ビーチを利用させていただき、そこにいらっしゃった管理人さんに集落までの行き方を尋ねたところ、道を案内していただき、駐車したまま散策に出かけて良いとの許可を頂けたので歩いて出かけることができました (これは本当にラッキーで、シーズンオフでこの日は注意報が出ていて観光客が0だったことが幸いしたのだと思います)

集落までは徒歩3分ほどで、そこには古き良き沖縄の風景が広がっていました 珊瑚の石垣や守り神シーサーが門扉や家の屋根に飾られた伝統的な家屋をたくさん見ることができます 人慣れした野良猫がそこかしこで羽を伸ばしていたり、島民の男性が白のインナーシャツにステテコというリラックススタイルで道を歩いていたり…静かでゆったりとした時間が流れる伊計島の日常を感じる素敵なひとときとなりました
