The Yokohama City Tsurumi Sports Center includes a strength training gym which I can highly recommend. It has recently (4th quarter of 2017) been renovated, has very good treadmills (Cybex), the usual machines (mostly Cybex) including several variations of cable tower, and most importantly a very large selection of free weights! They have a squat rack. There is also a stretching / bodyweight-exercise zone. Only thing I missed there was a stairmaster machine, that would have been nice. The gym is used by people of all ages, depending on the time of day, but I would say it attracts also a "hardcore"-type crowd - some of the patrons are pretty pumped! One visit is 300 Yen, less if you buy a stamp card for 10 visits. They do not provide instruction or training, but there is supervision for safety. I have been training at this gym 2015-2017. I began researching in google about public in gyms in Japan and surprisingly they are tourist-friendly and every region/ward has one at least.
It costs only 300¥ for 3 hours of weightlifting training. This facility has 2 bench presses, 1 power rack, 1 smith machine, 1 cybex cable machine, preacher’s, and dumbbells up to 32kg. and other leg focused machines.
The staff here is soo kind and friendly if you don’t know a word in Japanese (just like me).
