I attended the Foundation in Computing programme at Taylor’s College in 2024, and unfortunately, my experience was deeply disappointing.
The course content was poorly structured and did not adequately prepare me for a degree in Computer Science. Many of the subjects felt disconnected from what was actually needed to succeed in the field, and there was a serious lack of depth in the technical areas that truly matter.
What made things worse was the quality of teaching. Several lecturers frequently skipped classes or arrived significantly late without any proper explanation. This not only disrupted learning but also showed a lack of professionalism and accountability that you wouldn’t expect from an institution of this size and reputation.
As a student who genuinely wanted to build a strong foundation in computing, I felt unsupported and misled. There was little effort to engage students or ensure that we were on track academically. It seemed more like a box-ticking exercise than a programme designed to foster real learning.
I would not recommend this programme to students who are serious about pursuing Computer Science. I hope Taylor’s takes student feedback seriously and makes the necessary improvements, especially in teaching quality and curriculum relevance, so future students don’t have to go through the...
Read moreHi I am currently one of the students in Taylor's College.
Facilities 9.0/10 I think places are neat and wide for many activities like studying, sport ... I like the study room that is open 24/7. There is also gym which is wide and has many equipment with swimming pool. College has courts for futsal, tennis, 2 other sports. It was a good experience to play with my friends on a court. Many sits and places to study outside and relax. few rooms have problems with Aircon (Officials said they have a plan to change aircon system. At least, that is what I know.)
Education 6-7-8/10 Teachers here are qualified and know what they are doing. But at the foundation level, I felt that some lessons are that deep in explanation even if it's very new knowledge that you didn't study in school. But teachers help with that at least they can direct you. Teachers can help with lessons out of class almost any time, which is good for better understanding.
Activities 9/10 I seen many activities. I am sure anyone can find their favorite one.
So, yeah. Do I recommend it? Yes.
P.s. sorry for...
Read moreTerrible experience with one of the university's ambassadors at an education fair recently.
Upon presenting my question of "What do you think, in terms of facilities on campus or the uniqueness of courses or activities offered at said university, compared to other universities?" to the Taylor's ambassador, I was greeted with the answer of my lifetime, with the person going "I will have no comment on that. Even if Taylor's had the best technology, can you cope?".
Insanely disrespectful as he not just avoided or wasn't able to satisfy my doubts, but added further insult to my personal academic abilities for no apparent reason.
Just to provide context, Taylor's is nowhere near other universities in terms of ranking by subject for its engineering courses. As an example, UTP ranks around or below 250 and Taylor's is around 450. That's why I asked what I asked in order to see if they had something on hand to convince me.
This aside, the campus is alright I guess although its age certainly shows, but this experience just isn't what I needed as a...
