Buskett Gardens are a place if natural beauty and although originally the area was not a wooded place the mini forest has really taken the shape of a nutural busketto.
I have written other reviews about the Verdala Palace so this time I will give this review a somewhat different perspective.
Buskett touches three localities, that of Dingli to the Notth West, Rabat to the North East and Siggiewi to the South. It boarders with Girgenti that has some breadth taking views of tbe beautiful valley and Tal-Ghoja. It also has a stream that originates at the top of the hill of Buskett and it runs down to form the Valley of Buskett. This valley carries natural water often into June through the cane reeds that protect the banks of the valley from erosion. This valley is very nice for walkibg although a little difficult.
Around Busket one finds an abundance of flora including beautiful seasonal flowers such as wild fragrant daffodils that are protected by law. Around the Verdala Palace itself there are carpets of wild fresia and hidden amongst the vegitation one can find medows of wild gladolus and sole indigenous orchids. The cape sorrel radiates with its brigjt yellow colour and it sills evety nook and cranney of the rubble walls that seperate the fields.
In autum Buskett becomes a natural sanctuary for migrating birds, particularly to bird of prey that roost there. It also becomes the winter ground for various small to medium sized birds especially robins, warblers, thrush, turtle doves and starlings.
Certainly a place worth visiting not only in winter but also in the summer months where the area takes a completely different aspect yet nice...
Read moreBuskett woodlands have a lot of history as they form part of the Verdala Castle hunting grounds. They are the location that host the Imnarja celebrations, 29 th June. There will be a lot of farmer produce and animals on display with a lot of traditional festivities and food for patrons to enjoy. One word of advice is that it might be tricky to get to the location as reaching the area and parking are not good for such big numbers. Also take care of what you leave in your car as a lot of theft is reported yearly in this area during these festivities. This area might be the biggest woodland on the island. It’s got a lot of water led trees, some of which require some attention. The place is typically much cooler than the rest of the island due to the natural shade provided by the trees. The air is clean and fresh as the location is remote and not populated other then by the families waiting to enjoy the abundant nature and quiet in the area. The area is also frequented by dog lovers with some of them not cleaning after there four legged friends ( keep a sharp look out.) The gardens are also full of citrus trees and extremely old olives. One can venture down through the valley which can be full of water in the...
Read moreIt’s a good place to go and relax, breath clean air, walk, think, study, read, etc… To arrive the bus station is Buskett you can take the 56, it’s direct. However, in the place, there is few or none signalisation: there are just 2 maps in the whole garden (the place is very very big, you can get lost very easy), moreover, light is poor, there are not light posts, so if you go in winter, better finish your stay before 5:30pm There is a picnic area to eat...
