Our four day tour was stunningly beautiful and fun. Our local guide Jesus Castillo Rios was kind and patient, and was excellent; also a safe driver in rain, fog, and on hairpin turns. He spoke English, and was knowledgeable about history, and the natural phenomena, (trees, birds, plants, geology and rivers.) We especially loved walking through the Puente de Dios. We stayed in the eco tour company's lodge in Jalpan. It's clean and comfortable but don't expect frills. The cabins are set in a lovely, quiet environment, and were built using straw as insolation. SG Eco tours uses some of your fees to support small economic initiatives in the region (such as restaurants and a fish farm.) We had the most wonderful 3 day tour with Sierra Gorda Ecotours (The Best of Sierra Gorda). Our guide and driver, Esteban was so knowledgeable about every aspect of the area: the nature, the history, the architecture and the local life and culture. He was attentive, but also knew when to give us some space, and by the end he felt like a friend, whose company we enjoyed. We sampled a lot of delicious local cuisine, including food cooked by restaurants supported by Sierra Gorda Ecotours. The area is really stunning, and the accommodation was perfect for a visit to the countryside. We were also really pleased that a portion of what we paid goes to help the local community. Tomamos el tour Tradición y cultura que dura 4 días. Fue una experiencia única, la agencia es parte de una ONG que está enfocada en la conservación de la Reserva de la Biósfera de la Sierra Gorda y tiene muchos proyectos relacionados con el tema, el turismo ecológico es uno de ellos. Desde que pedí informes por WhatsApp fue una atención excelente, Daniel, el chico que me respondió, me aclaró todas mis dudas y me dio información suficiente para poder tomar mi decisión. Sus cabañas me encantaron, todo construido para reducir la huella ambiental. El tour fue perfecto, un gran balance entre naturaleza y cultura, visitamos lugares increíbles. Nuestro guía fue Toribio Rubio, excelente también, siempre puntual, con mucho conocimiento de la Sierra y de los lugares que visitamos, bien dispuesto a responder todas nuestras preguntas, paciente durante los recorridos, sin presionarnos por el horario cuando nos retrasábamos por estar disfrutando de los lugares. Además es un excelente conductor, nos sentimos muy tranquilos mientras manejaba por las carreteras y terracerías de la Sierra. Otro aspecto que me encantó fue la Ruta del Sabor, varias fondas ubicadas en distintas localidades que han sido apoyadas también por la organización para mejorar sus locales y su atención al público, pero respetando sus platillos y la forma de prepararlos, fue toda una experiencia disfrutar tantos guisados serranos y conocer a las extraordinarias cocineras.
