The main point here is !Not eco friendly! I wish I could say more nice things, there are many cute things about this place, the owners Nico and Giulia are nice, however I want to properly inform the next potential guests so you don’t go through what we went through because we felt extremely cat-fished We run yoga teacher trainings and retreats and are always looking to work with and support sustainable eco friendly resorts. We thought that was what lunita was. There are honestly to many things to share here about our experience but I’ll keep it simple and stick to the main point that’s to remain as professional as possible: -Rooms are moldy - zero sunlight on the property besides a square meter near the pool and only from 11:30-2pm - food is okay. They had 4 different cooks rotate during our stay. Of which one was fired for smoking and playing screamo music while our guests ate breakfast. -our blankets didn’t even get washed until week 3 and only because we asked… they smelt like feet and armpits from day 1. Thank goodness our group was being chill about all this but by week 3 I noticed the toxic sprays they were using in the rooms to ā€œcleanā€. I asked Giulia and Nico to send a photo of what they were using. No photo was sent but they assured me it was just to manage the bugs. On the last day I decided to take a peep and I was honestly shocked. I can get over the mold, the lack of integrity of providing a safe space to practice yoga in, beds that literally have springs and black mold growing on them, lumpy pillows, zero sunlight, the lack of support or help in hiring adequate staff to support 19 women in the jungle during an intensive immersive stay on your property while you are MIA.. But the whack chemicals these people are using especially on a system that flows directly back in to the cenotes is pretty concerning. Glade scented sprays, Dove soap,, Clorox bleach, raid sprays, chlorine. Obviously hazardous for us. Giulia and Nico preached not wanting to cut down trees because ā€œsave the treesā€ which is their excuse as to why the property literally has ZERO sunlight. They have cut corners and labeled their cheap business practices as eco Friendly. There is zero awareness of what eco friendly means. I am upset I booked with this place and supported an eco/ unaware harmful business. Hard no. Do not recommend if your looking to support conscious businesses and/or have a healthy stay. To respond to your response. I shared all this with Giulia in person. Not everything about this place is bad. It is very cute and deeply immersed in nature. But we booked based off of what the reviews said, the pictures, and the word of Nico. I just want to be fair to people booking who want a genuine eco friendly stay. This is not it. You said your pool had ZERO chemicals … your soaps have fragrances and harmful chemicals … glade room freshener ? Just unnecessary. You don’t need to cut down the trees… you’re slowly killing anyways. Please share your system for gray water removal? We also booked for 26 days. Maybe shorter stays they are more equipped to handle, but a month seemed like a struggle and we barely even saw Nico or Giulia on site ( except when Giulia subbed in to cook a meal) Our course is priced at what it is priced at because of our collective experience and trainings as teachers. We look for simple stays as it is most conducive to the teachings of yoga. We have hosted is much more simple eco friendly stays ( 4 persons per room, no walls, compost toilets) and never ran into any of these problems due to the fact that they were being run as legitimate eco friendly and with proper support. We are sorry to leave this review. But maybe it will inspire to change your business practices.

Hosted a 26 day yoga training here. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who needs to do any serious movement in the tarped space as the floors are always wet with humidity and can be a pretty slippery without the right yoga mat or a different towel everyday. When it rains the tarp leaks at different places and we had to cancel 5 or 6 classes. When I had booked the owners agreed to Build a covered yoga shala that would be adequate to sit in for 9-12 hours/ day, they asked me to pay an initial 25% deposit. I wish I had never sent that deposit of 8k CAD because when they told me months later that their idea of building a covered yoga Shala was to throw a tarp over their unfinished meditation area, I was in shock. But had read recent reviews of people enjoying with their retreats with the tarp up, and figured I was over reacting. When I had visited 1 month prior to the training, I noticed the floor was damp with humidity and asked the owners about it- they said it was just wet from being cleaned. During the heavy rains during our stay there, we often had to ask for things to dry the space with/ ask for the space to be cleaned. At first they wanted to charge 12$ per extra towel, but ended up waiving the fee as we explained the little amount of sunlight on the property meant nothing was drying quickly. In our 3/4 week there they finally started to provide two towels to dry the floor after the rains in the morning. I’m sure these are concerns particular to one type of yoga training being held here. Hopefully they build a proper space with different lights and proper ventilation if hosting this type of training in the future. The jungle is beautiful and secluded. Butterflies and monkeys Often visit. There are many cenotes near by that are a short drive away. I’m sure a short stay would be a beautifully different experience, as the many other great reviews highlight. I have also shared these concerns with the owners prior to sharing this review.

I had the pleasure of hosting my first international retreat at Lunita and it couldn’t have gone any better! From the start Nico and Lorenza were so helpful, encouraging, and supportive. I could tell they actually cared about the wellbeing of our retreat. Everything went so smoothly during the retreat. I hardly had to think about logistics so I could just focus on holding space for my participants. The space is so magical and everyone involved in each ceremony was so wise, loving, and healing. We did a cacao ceremony, welcome ceremony, temazcal (wow amazing!), and a tree planting ceremony. Every one of these ceremonies was authentic. I didn’t feel like a tourist watching an act from a local show. I could feel how genuine the ceremony was and the words the shamans were saying. It was such a healing experience. I HIGHLY recommend booking with Lunita. I know I’ll be back again šŸ’š. Muchas gracias Lunita for everything! So grateful to be a part of your family now. See you again for the next one šŸ˜‰.

Here's the revised review with the Spanish spelling for Johnny:

I recently held the Black Man's Self-Mastery Retreat at Lunita Jungle for the second time, and it was exactly as I envisioned. Working with Nico and Lorenza has been a true pleasure; they are incredible partners who go above and beyond throughout the planning process, during the retreat, and even afterward. Their dedication and exceptional service truly shine through.

Upon our arrival, everything was perfect. The entire space was immaculately clean, just as it always is. Jonny was exceptional, responding promptly to every need and ensuring that everything was perfect for each man's stay. His attention to detail and commitment to our comfort did not go unnoticed. Lupe made sure each room was cleaned daily, which we deeply appreciated—it added a touch of care that made everyone feel well looked after.

Chef Umberto was another highlight of our experience. He coordinated a fantastic menu before the event, taking into account every man's dietary needs, and delivered meals that were not only delicious but also nourishing.

I’m already looking forward to our next retreat, the Racial Healing and Equity Practitioner Retreat in October. We can’t wait to return for another wonderful experience at Lunita Jungle. Thank you, Nico, Lorenza, Jonny, Lupe, and Chef Umberto, for making our retreat truly special. We...
