Depending on your personal taste, a bicycle tour is better. You will be able to get a better experience, better photographs and videos of the area. Much of the route to the access point where you can carry out your visit does not have a cell phone signal. It is highly recommended that you save in your Google Maps application. The complete map of the region would otherwise be a bit difficult to get to. It also has a souvenir area and where you can buy some of its products for April 2024. Access with a tour and bicycle costs. It cost 350 MXN$. When you are about to arrive at the starting point you will see some people giving you signs, these people are the same people who work in agreement with the salt industry, they can give you directions on how to get there since on the aforementioned date the signage is poor. Read moreThe location is about 3 hours drive from either Cancun or Playa Del Carmen. Personally I am not impressed with it whatsoever because the actual pink "lake" is just a couple of large ponds. They are located inside of a private property so you will have to pay your way to access it. There are basically 3 types of tours, walking, bike and truck. The walking and bike tours are not expensive, give an take $10-$15 (30 min), the truck tour which includes Flamingos and such (different locations) I think is around $50 a person. I had some high hopes after the 3 hrs. drive but was immediately taken back before I even exited the vehicle. It is inside of this industrial (salt mining) area, dusty and wide open, surrounding this pink algae filled pond. They built a couple of these little dune hills and chairs around the pond for you to take pictures. The tour guides will help you take some pictures and they are quite talented, but the place is very far from romantic considering the surroundings. You will find better views at some of the abandoned excavation sites in the US then here, minus the pink algae. If you really ran out of things to do in Cancun and has some time to kill, the drive there is no bad but be aware of the recent constructions which could...
Read moreLas Coloradas was honestly not really worth the visit, in our opinion. The pink water is interesting — it gets its color from the salt production process — but that’s about it. It’s not a natural lagoon where you can swim or walk around freely. The surroundings feel quite industrial, and the view is limited.
When we arrived, there were dozens of men calling out to offer tours. While they weren’t aggressive, the situation felt a bit intimidating. One man even followed us for a while on a motorbike, trying to convince us to join a tour, which made us feel uncomfortable. Because of that, we decided not to stay long.
We briefly pulled over on the side of the road to admire the pink water from a distance, took a few photos, and left again after about 10 minutes.
All in all, it was interesting to see once, but we wouldn’t recommend going out of your way for it — there are many more enjoyable and authentic spots to explore in...
