Hats off to the chef & owners - we loved this little family owned restaurant! We both got the snapper tackle boxes (snapper, chips, salad with tartare) and it was mind-blowingly good! 🤯 The fish and chips were fried to perfection, not heavy or greasy whatsoever. Batter was great and not too thick. The tartare sauce was a cherry on top - so yummy & flavorful and was perfect on the fish. The salad included in the tackle box was also very plentiful, flavorful & so refreshing. We also got the Pineapple Fritter for dessert, which was surprisingly very good and a balanced treat. There was so much on the menu we wish we had the time and stomach to try 😭 but we’ll definitely be back if we’re back in NZ. We found River’s Catch on Google maps, and it was a little bit out of our way but what caught our attention were the incredible reviews they already had - and WOW it did not disappoint. It’s worth the detour! Thank you Izzy, you were so kind & the food was incredible!

Food was good. Thick cut fries awesome. That smokey garlic mayo was bomb. Filled me up good. Very recommended.

Found this gem looking for a dinner spot. After reading the reviews & noting it was a locally owned restaurant, we knew we HAD to try it. Food was delicious, the fish/chips(we had kumara(Sweet potato fries) was tasty - the batter was a little thicker, but not too much! The calamari was the most tender we've ever had, the batter was different than on the fish, much lighter. We were happy we went with the shoestring fries as well, the standard ones were more wedge like that we saw. The counter gal was very polite & helpful. There is very limited seating, a couple of tables out front, several spots to stand and dine. We shared one end of the picnic table w/ another couple. Parking is also limited directly in front of the place, but many parked on the street. It's in a very small strip mall...3 businesses total, in a neighborhood. Lots of people taking food to go as well... With the tasty food, it's not a surprise!

We looked up the best fish and chip shop in the north island and this place was top of the google list so we had to try it out. After over an hours drive from north Waikato we had high hopes after reading the other reviews. We ordered a big selection to try most of the items on the menu. Well they exceeded all of our hopes, even the hardest to please member of our family. The smash burger was incredible, beef was perfectly cooked and had the tastiest mustard mayo with melted cheese throughout, the fish beautifully cooked and fresh with golden crispy batter, chips big and crunchy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, no oil or grease, nothing dry. The little Philippines spring rolls were beautiful with heaps of flavour, and the salad was so refreshing. The hospitality of everyone was lovely and accommodating. Would we drive all that way again for fish and chips?...
