Place of aggressive fining by private parking company. Parking machines dont accept Euro coins, US dollars and international credit cards in June 2022. With cards text "card not accepted comes to screen" only on Norwegian if you try pay with contactless EMV VISA,MC,JCB,AMEX card with tapping and chip. This was tested with 7 cards of 4 different major international cards schemes of multible BIN ranges of 5 different individuals. They all got parking fines of 650NOK on late sunday evening between 9 and 11 oclock. Instructions on site were only in Norwegian on weekend 18th/19th June. You get fined if you dont have a card provided by local Norwegian bank or NOK coins. Avoid this parking. The parking on other sightseeing places on the island is free. They will advice you afterwards in network only after they have written fines. Best way to hike here is to approach with bike and park it to forest of the mountain outside of visible range of this parking company guards as there are no free parking places in this small distant town. You can park you car to ,,Barden 659 M trail head parking,, and approach the last 4,9km with vehicle that cant be fined to...
Read moreWe hiked Hesten in late May 2024, there is now an automat machine which accepts card payment, and the price is calculated for every 15 mins. We parked for 2.5 hrs and it was NOK 88. Remember to double check that you have inputed the correct car plate (there is some delay of the buttons on the display and you can easily type in the wrong letter you intended to) and also to go back to the machine and click ‘finish parking’ with your bank card, it should refund you any unused minutes if you leave early.
There is a WC sign nearby but personally we couldn’t find any WC near this carpark
Side note, we thought there is a trail from this parking to the Hesten trailhead, which there is actually none, the land behind the parking is a wetland and is very difficult to walk in. It’s better to walk along the car road to the Hesten trailhead from...
Read moreParking arrangement was amazing in a bad way. First, there were many “No parking” signs visible, but no signs where to park actually. We parked in a place without any sign, but we were warned by the lady from a nearby house that we should go to the harbour to park (some 10 min walk from the trail head). The easypark app is preposterous, since you choose the time and you are charged automatically, without knowing the amount you pay beforehand. Found an empty space after harbour parking lot and immediately got warned that we would be fined about 6000 NOK, if the bus could not turn. We were also requested to warn the rest of the drivers, like we were some kind of a syndicate! Also the guy notified that they have a lot of tourists. I agree Not a welcoming place, and not according to any...
