Up to me, those termas are the best of the island. Not for their surroundings or for their size and amenities, but simply for the quiet and chill moment there offer. We went there after hiking the PRC29 (Salto Do Cabrito) which starts one street away. During the two hours we spent there, we were maximum 6 people in the bath. The bath are not huge but more than enough to relax after a long day. Water is about 37-39C. Surroundings are quiet and green with luxury vegetation on the wall. Overall, this place is perfectly to chill with your soul mate. We didn't try the massages or others, but only heard good things about it.

Caldeiras spa mud 'Massage'. 75 euros for 1 hour of cool mud and cold breeze on your skin was NOT pleasant or relaxing. I asked for the room to be warmed, not possible. I was told 'heavy pressure is not possible because the mud is so strong'. This treatment should be advertised as a skin exfoliation treatment and priced at 30 euros. At least the thermal bath inside the room was warm. Nice ladies though. I did not have the opportunity to use the rest of the facilities, but will give this spa another chance.

Miracle place! Small and quiet. In my opinion, this is the only place on island with a real thermal pool. In compare to other pools on island, the water is really hot (40*) and sanitary facilities are better than others. If you want to take thermal bath without jungle appearance- definitly come here. We were here 2 times in the evening and it was empty. The staff is nice and kind. Thank you so much!

This used to be such a great spot to soak before the renovation which has turned it into a death trap, the tile all around the pools is extremely slippery, not intended for this purpose at all. They should have used anti skid tile at least!! There are stairs with no railings going up to nowhere, where people put their stuff. I slipped and luckily didn’t fall down into the ditch where I could have been seriously hurt. One of the employees witnessed this and said you shouldn’t have been on the stairs !! If they don’t want people on the stairs they shouldn’t allow it! There is no sign or indication anywhere that people are not allowed to put their things on the stairs, plus where I fell wasn’t even on the stairs but at the bottom of them by the pool. It was raining thus making the tile even more slippery. Also the pools were not hot at all. Maybe 35 at the most! I hope they will make the necessary safety changes to this place so that more people can enjoy it. They say that their renovations are not completed, in that case why is has the cost of entry doubled?!! Charging more for a place that is still under construction and dangerous is unbelievable. The response from the pools that they chose non slip flooring, (but it is not non slip) is such a cop out, and also passing the blame onto someone other than the establishment themself! When people get hurt at their place they need to take responsibility! not tell us it's the flooring manufacturers fault! Maybe they should close until they are really ready to...

I absolutely do NOT recommend. There are two very small connected pools which in total are less than half the size of a hotel pool.

There were four loud children and two screaming babies in addition to at least 10 more adults - making the space absolutely cramped and not at all relaxing. There is one sign that say “Quiet Please” but the pools were treated like a kid’s play park (loud and raucous) - the staff made no attempt to quiet the noise.

We purchased massages and unfortunately the massage space is directly next to the shower area and pools, so we heard all the screaming and crying during the massages in addition to the rooms being extremely hot. My €110 volcanic massage essentially consisted of mud being lathered on only part of my body (completely skipping my arms) with little to no massage even after asking for more pressure.

My husband’s massage was a bit better but exemplified a lack of consistency in the services.

The bathroom, showering, and changing area (directly outside of the massage area) were also in desperate need of a deep clean because they...

Sao Miguel has a treasure here, and yet this place is a disaster and the main pool ugly. This needs to be torn down and pools rebuilt properly to be enjoyed. There are so many attractively done areas in Sao Miguel. How can the local mayor allow this gem to reach this state? If it is privately owned, it should be approriated and properly built up. Some work is being done in the change rooms, but the pool itself is horrendous.

Compare this disaster to the Park Natural da Ribeira dos Calderões, which has been redeveloped to enhance the natural beauty while repairing the original mills and including them in the tour, and...
