I don’t usually leave reviews, but this time I really want to. This place is a hidden gem on the hiking trails of the Azores. Meeting the owner, Pedro, was a beautiful experience — he was incredibly kind, told us about the local cuisine and places to visit, and even gave us some tips. We had a wonderful exchange, all the food was delicious, and he let us try tuna cooked on volcanic stone for five hours — it was out of this world. We also tasted poncha, a traditional alcoholic drink from Madeira, because they also have many products from Madeira. It was a lovely discovery for us. After a tiring hike, finding a place this good with such a welcoming owner is exactly what you need.

What a discovery! The food at Já Marchava is absolutely amazing – pure, homemade flavors you won’t find anywhere else on the island. Our kids loved it, which is truly rare. Everything shows quality and a passion for cooking. A real hidden gem on São Miguel – absolutely a must-visit!

I will add a 5 star review not to spoil the rating however this place was closed at lunchtime, 14:00 on Sunday despite it showing being open.. that's quite disappointing. I suggest the owners update their times as this is misleading information and quite annoying experience.
