Parna kopel ostaja sinonim za užitek in regeneracijo: izkušnja salus per aquam. Hamam je vroča parna kopel, ki regenerira in prečiščuje telo. Ritual zahteva bivanje v prostoru z vlažnostjo do 100 % in relativno nizko temperaturo, približno 48 °C. Kakovost izkušnje in koristi za telo so odvisne od pravega ravnovesja med tema dvema vrednostma. Ime »turška kopel« se morda zdi pretirano, saj izvor tega rituala ni strogo povezan s Turčijo.
