You may have to rethink the hotdog rolls and buns section. Not so long ago I went to buy some hotdog rolls and I found the window open so I opted for the rolls in the clear plastic bags. These rolls had no Spar sticker with a price and packed by date on them so I had no idea if a Spar employee packed them or if they were customer rejects (which isn't very hygienic because I don't know if they used the tongs or their hands to select them). Speaking of tongs... When I was there, there was no tong on the rolls and buns shelves. One other customer and I were visibly confused about how we were supposed to get our rolls and buns without the tongs. Were we supposed to use our hands? Then I wondered how many people got there before us and how many of them were touching the rolls and buns and leaving them because they didn't feel fresh or just changed their minds. That said, the rolls I bought weren't fresh at all. They were stale and dry. I had no way of knowing how fresh these rolls were and when they were packed because, again, there was no sticker with a "packed by" and "sell by" date on them (the same kind of sticker there is on the muffins and desserts). My suspicion is that these rolls don't have "packed by" stickers so Spar can keep them on the shelf a little over the "sell by" date. I walked by this section a few days ago and found the rolls window open again. I don't think the stickers on the windows asking customers to close the windows is effective. Some customers are clearly forgetting the windows open, and all sorts of things can and do fly into there, not to mention the rolls and buns probably dry out quicker because they are constantly exposed. I'd suggest packing the rolls yourselves, preferably in packs of 4 and 6, and sticking a label on them that has the packed by and sell by date. That way, if customers forget the windows open it doesn't completely expose the rolls and buns to flies and people's sweaty palms.
I've also been meaning to comment on the sad state of your trolleys. The smaller two basket trolleys often have wheel problems and the baskets aren't clean. I can understand the occasional moment when a customer buys a defective product that spills onto the basket and the spill can easily be wiped off with the wipes next to the door. However, the baskets look really grimy, and there isn't a nice way to say this. We put our food in these baskets and I think that is enough reason for the baskets to be a lot cleaner. They currently look like they've been collecting grime for the past ten or more years. Other grocery stores have clean baskets. This Spar can too.
And about the wipes, the green ones are a whole lot better than the white ones. The green ones are a lot more soapy than the white ones and don't seem to dry out as fast as the white ones do. I don't know why, but the white ones usually feel a bit too dry, so they don't clean much and probably aren't worth the money. The green wipes are great.
Some of the staff members really aren't great. They will chat among themselves when they can see that you need or want help. Most of them don't go out of their way to help customers, unless you ask them for it, and when they do help, half of them make it seem like you're an inconvenience to them and do the bare minimum because they CLEARLY have better things to do than help you. And some of them aren't happy communicating in English, so I suppose every customer who wants to shop at this Spar must be fluent in isiXhosa according to them? I don't know if it's because so many students are customers here, but some of them need to get their customer service skills up. Students are customers too, and they ALSO deserve good customer service. Some of them seem to have the mindset that young customers are the perfect people for them to give an attitude and they'll get away with it. Nip this in the bud! The only staff member I give 5/5 to is Helda-Ann, she's always SO friendly and respectful! It's always a pleasure getting my grocery...
Read morevery disappointed at what just happened, law states that when the supplier is in the wrong the transaction should favour the consumer. i got groceries and at the til the swipping machine wasnt responding after i swiped ,however had to swipe with a different machine and this time the transaction declined due to insufficient funds, meaning funds were already deducted from my account from the 1st swipe. got the alert from my bank of the total amount reserved for purchase. and it so happens that these funds do not immediately show on the bank statements, it takes at least 5 days to clear. i explained all this to the management and was told to come back next week when the funds have cleared. meaning from today till then i wont have food nor money.it is just frustrating that even when you have prove that money has been transeferred to them they wont meet with you halfway but have to ensure that their side is good. this is just bad customer care and taking advantage of customers , but hey we know what the Consumer Protection Act says and this is not th way to treat a consumer when the supplier is the one at "fault". I deserve compensation for the harm caused and...
Read moreTaxis still blocking entrance from Admirality Road and Taxis hooting inside and outside all the Time. You must put up a fence like Pick n Pay and it works .Heard comments from many visitors being students that the Taxi minibus gadgee come into the center and grab students phones and run and the taxi drives off.We are not the only people shopping there and The Security you have there is a joke. One good thing was done after I complained last time to The Banks and Spar was to move the ATM machines to the parking area and it works as no more robbing people when they draw money. For you to get a 5 Star Rating put a fence around Spar as pick n pay has. I have spoken and been with a Senior Traffic official and he agrees a fence will work then the Taxi Drivers cannot see clearly through the Fence and cause havoc. The Taxi Drivers can go across the street and park on the open piece in Strandfontein where some do go and they will still have a fare chance to pick up commuters. I know they have to earn a living but it is getting worse We hate shopping there and prefers Pick n pay...
