The history of this building (as found on the plaque) “In the 1930s the City's Engineer's Department built this substation in warm red brick laid in Dutch-bond, replacing an earlier building. It also served the tram network that ran from town to Zoo Lake and Rosebank between 1906 and 1961”

Must visit venue for their current exhibition running until 15 November. Local artist Rebecca Potterton is joined by other local and international contributors in a thought provoking show. A real gem of a venue. I recommend a visit to Issy's coffee shop at nearby JHGC afterwards.

I went to go and see the exhibition: OTHERSCAPES. It was wonderful. The curation was beautiful and the concepts were insightful. The space itself was airy and magical. Definitely worth the visit.

This one is for the books! We knew from the moment we stepped into the premises of JCAF that it would be a memorable experience.

This is one of those well curated purpose driven art exhibitions themed around the Ecospheres and it challenges you to marry art, architecture and environmental sustainability. It’s had such a profound impact on me, and was undoubtedly the highlight for my family as well. It’s such a bucket list experience!

Our art guide, Kabelo was such a scintillating hostess not to mention how she went out of her way to make all phases of the exhibitions very relatable. She has the gift of the gab and knows how to draw you into every story.

She took us on an ecological art journey like no another where you can vividly draw into your own vantage point. Not only that but she spoke with such depth and I can’t begin to describe how nuanced the entire experience was. She’s fervently knowledgeable and so engaging which made the entire experience so magical.

The exhibitions boast a unique blend of artwork from different parts of the world. Pieces on show range from artists hailing from South Africa, India, Argentina, Peru to West Africa amongst others.

It’s proof that South Africa boasts the state of the art facilities and is well prepared to host world class...

Was so honoured and grateful to have seen the Kahlo, Sher-Gil and Stern modernist identities in the global South exhibition. I've seen it twice and it amazed me even more the second time. Once in a life time oppurtunity. Thank you JCAF. 4th visit for me on the 19th of August 2023. Got to see the Otherscapes exhibition.. All. I can say is wow. Do yourself a favour and make a booking. They have the most lovely tour guides and it is great that we can start a conversation around the art...

I visited for the exhibition titled Kahlo, Sher-Gil, Stern: Modernist Identities in the Global South. The aims of the exhibition and its execution were well done. Having the art histriy offered to us and labelling the theme made the experience and engaging. The objectives are to to make the experience of visiting a gallery less sterile and more interactive and I think the aims were met and am excited to visit for...
