A week ago I would have given Sloanes 5 stars as we have always bought from them and their service is great. On Saturday we decided to get some drywors and biltong like every other Saturday, we didn't eat breakfast so we dug into it, in the car. We didn't eat lunch as we were full from the drywors and biltong. 3/4hrs later my husband started feeling ill. He started vomiting and had severe diarhee. He also had a packet of chips so we thought it was that as I wasnt sick and I didn't eat chips. However Saturday evening around 11pm I started vomiting and also had severe diarhee. Before we went to sleep I gave a piece of drywors and biltong to my dogs as at that time we still thought that hubby was sick from something else. At 1pm my dogs started vomiting aswel giving us enough reason to believe the drywors and or biltong was indeed contaminated. On Sunday we spent the day sleeping as our bodies was down and out. We had to go get charcoal pills from the pharmacy who also confirmed that we had food poisoning from the symptoms we had. This morning I called to advise them and was told that no one else complained. This does not make sense at all. I am hoping that this post will make more people come forward. The only reasoning I have is that it's all we ate that day so it must have been that...
Read moreRAW LAMB AT THE HOT FOOD SECTION! Preordered Lamb Ribs. I was told they are ready. I drive there (takes me maybe 10/15 minutes) to get told they are not ready and will be in 15 minutes. After waiting for at least 30 minutes (more like 45) I was handed pale fatty ribs that barely had any meat on them. I could literally see the other ribs were better and yet when I requested for them to replace the pale ribs the response was that 'They are all like that' . Honestly one of the worst experiences I have had with any butchery or shop in general. I was not helped. And I wasted R50 on a meal that I cannot even eat. I am not someone who just hops onto the net to bad mouth brands but in this case I feel like Sloane Meat Market has acted very poorly today and I intend to make that clear. UPDATE: THE RIBS ARE RAW. I REALLY HOPE I DONT GET ILL FROM...
Read moreI miss the old butchery when they were a market and freshness was a priority. I’ve experienced off produce three times now.
The first bad experience was with their marinated lemon and herb chicken. The smell was bad and when I opened the sealed plastic containing the chicken. Despite this, I still cooked it and the result was inedible.
The second bad experience, the wors was so tough, it took over 2 hours to braai and tasted acidic and below average.
The third and final bad experience was the wors again. It smelt and looked fine when I bought it from the store two days ago. Today it didn’t smell good and appeared a lot darker than it originally was. Again, despite my better judgment, the wors was cooked on the braai and it was totally inedible.
Unfortunately, I can’t trust this butchery anymore as their produce are a...
