One star is honestly to good of a review for this particular branch of Game, but since you can't technically go lower than that to post a review this will surfice. If you could post a review score in the negatives, Game, Newcastle would get ten negative stars.
On my behalf, my mother bought a garden trimmer from the store, which broke down after its first use. I then proceeded to return the item to the store in person and encountered a member of Game's staff who told me they don't do returns on that particular item (this is against the policy that is literally inscribed on the walls on Game's return section).
That particular staff member insisted that the Trimmer be taken in for repairs at the supplier of the item, a request I acquiesced to at the time, since I didn't mind retaining ownership of the product as long as it was adequately fixed.
I received a slip that contained a stipulation stating that, "should the item take more than 20 business day's to be evaluated (and repaired in the case the item had a default not caused by me) by the supplier I am entitled to a full refund -- it took about a month and a half before Game called me to come collect the trimmer, and when someone went to collect it the trimmer was not fixed, but was still broken; I suspect the staff at Game didn't bother sending it to the supplier at all and somehow thought I was so stupid I wouldn't notice this.
I left the item at the store, refusing to take back a broken item and demanded they refund me my money, the staff at Game vehemently denied, claiming I agreed to have it repaired disqualifying me from a refund, despite the trimmer still being broken and not having been repaired in any way.
This gave way to a months long back-and-forth with Game's head office, which resulted in a phone call from Game, Newcastle telling me to come collect the broken trimmer before it gets thrown out as they cannot keep it in storage indefinitely -- both the national and regional branches of Game obviously didn't want to give me a refund.
At my wits end I wrote in to the head office at Game with all the evidence of my purchase, phone calls, and the slip proving the staff at Game were suppose to send the trimmer in for repairs. I made it known that I intended to file a lawsuit against Game not only for their attempt to swindle me like a fool, but also for the mental anguish this whole ordeal was causing me. I then got a call within hours of sending this email, with the staff at the national office all of a sudden being very nice, and telling me I got a refund and to collect my money in-store whenever I get the time.
However, even this would be a minor headache as upon frequenting the store to collect my refund the employee at the refund counter, had a very bad attitude and claimed they couldn't give me cash, and instead gave me a voucher to spend at the very same Game store, literally going against what the employer at the head office told me. I gave that voucher to someone who was able to exchange it for cash at the very same store, because Game wouldn't be Game if its vindictive staff didn't try to swindle me one last time.
So if you fancy having your consumer rights, consumer rights literally plastered on the stores walls violated in the most obvious way. Drawing the ire of demented staff workers who seem to have personal vendetta's against customer's they do not know; and having to threaten legal action to get a simple refund, then this is your store.
But if you respect your peace as a human being and want to be happy after spending your money at a shop avoid this store in all its incarnations at all costs -- you will regret it!
And worse of all, I had previously patronized the store for office supplies worth close to R 10 000, an amount I paid in cash, and had the service been good upon returning the garden trimmer I would have continued to use them, but thanks to their needless antics they lost out on a paying customer.
