Gangnam Finance Center — Local services in Seoul

it's me, the only Foreigner in Korea who writes decent reviews on Google Maps in English. This is an imposing Finance Center building. You can rent offices on the top floor. They're expensive. As of 2018 one seat in a shared office space will cost you about $2, 000 per month. That's one chair. And one tiny desk. There are lots of restaurants in the basement there is a fitness center in the basement. There is a convenience store in the basement. There's a hospital in this building. Google is in this building. Twitter Korea is in this building if I recall correctly. It's a great place to be. If you could only live here and work at one of those places you would almost have everything you need. Please don't do that....

It's like the model central business district building, with the right access, right location, and right everything that you can possibly ask for.

Located right by Exit 2 of Yeoksam subway station, you have escalators and shelters that bring you as close to the building as possible. It's not entirely sheltered end-to-end, unfortunately.

The design of the entrance is also as grand as it can possibly be, with turnstile doors and marble flooring.

통칭 GFC. 서울특별시 강남구 역삼동에 있는 마천루 빌딩. 어지간한 마천루에 비해서 폭이 매우 넓고 웅장하다. 오피스 빌딩이며 2017년 롯데월드타워에 추월당하기 전까지 대한민국에서 연면적이 제일 넓은 빌딩이었다. 강 건너 세종대로 쪽의 태평로1가에는 이 건물의 자매빌딩(?)인 서울 파이낸스 센터(SFC)가 있다. 면적은 GFC의 절반 수준. 높이도 GFC에 비해 많이 낮다. 일반인들은 그냥 파이낸스센터나 서울파이낸스센터라고 하면 이쪽으로 혼동하는 경우도 종종 있는 듯하다. 반면 태평로1가의 파이낸스센터는 서울의 중심가인 세종대로에 위치해 있다는 점과, 위치 특성상 주요 집회가 자주 열려 업계 종사자(?)들은 파이낸스센터하면 보통 이쪽을 먼저 떠올린다. 2001년도에 완공 되었으며 63빌딩, 트레이드타워에 이어 대한민국에서 세번째로 높이 200미터를 넘긴 마천루다.

원래는 현대산업개발의 본사 사옥으로 쓰기 위해서 지은 건물이었다.[1] 그러나 1997년 외환 위기가 터지고 현대산업개발이 위기를 맞으면서 이 건물을 매각할 수밖에 없는 처지에 몰렸다. 그래서 이 빌딩을 매물로 내놓아서 사간 곳이 외환은행을 인수했던 론스타... 결국 2001년에 약 7000억원에 매각 이후 론스타의 이름을 따서 스타타워로 이름이 바뀌었다가 론스타가 2004년 싱가포르 GIC (싱가포르투자청)에 이 건물을 다시 9000억원에 매각하게 된다. 그래도 한동안 스타타워로 이름붙이고 있다 2007년 강남 파이낸스 센터, GFC로 이름이 바뀐다.

원래는 밤마다 특이한 불빛을 비추어서 특유의 야경을 연출했으나 돈이 많이 들어서 2015년 이 이벤트가 중단되었다.

고지대에 위치해 있어서 그런지 꽤 높아보이는 편이다. 지하에는 여러 음식점들이 입주한 식당가가 있으며, 1층은 누구나 24시간 출입할 수 있는 휴식공간이 마련되어 있다.

여담으로 면적이 넓은 건축물답게 한국에서 가장 부피가 큰 건물이었다. 상술했듯이 강남 지역 주변 일대에서 무역센터, 타워팰리스 3차와 함께 매우 눈에 잘 띄는 고층 건물 중 하나인데, 그 굵기 또한 심히 굵고 아름답다. 물론 현재는 높이가 매우 압도적인 롯데월드타워가 그 자리를 차지했다. 연건평이 무려 64,305평으로, 이는 연건평이 50,200평정도 되는...
