Cool indoor rock climbing gym if you’re in the Mallorca area! State of the art walls, holds, and mats. Decently sized space, and there’s a cafe in the entrance. Day pass plus all the rentals for bouldering came out to about €20. Parking was plentiful and free on the street.
They didn’t have a good selection of rental shoes - just a few random mismatched pairs (some with holes in the the rubber) that smelled like sweaty feet. Maybe I’m spoiled with Touchstone gyms in California that have rental shoes in every size and spray the insides after each rental. They also did not have chalk for rent, so I had to purchase a bag for €3,5 which I used about 1/10th of and couldn’t fly home with.
I didn’t see a water fountain, which was a bummer on such a hot day. I believe they did have AC running but in the heat of the summer I was still sweating inside from the humidity and heat.
The bouldering and rope climbing area were decently sized, but smaller than I’m used to. The boulder walls were pretty sparse with climbs, so there was only about 6-10 climbs of each color-way (difficulty level), which was fine to get through on a day pass, but it would be frustrating to be a permanent gym member and not have a lot of climbs. They did have an excellent looking training wall jam packed with holds.
Their changing rooms were simple rooms with benches, a couple shower heads, one toilet, and one sink. Pretty sparse, but nice to have. They were out of toilet paper and paper towels while I was there.
Overall, I would absolutely still go back as it was a fun indoor gym in the area, but I hope my review helps manage expectations of potential future...
Read moreAs great as the place could be, you feel the insatiable greed of a faceless corporation milking every possible penny without any concern for the noble art of climbing, nor probably the wellbeing of its employees, which are fired and change way more often than the sad rigurgitation of holds on the walls that they call "boulders". Had the pleasure to be a customer while the route setters were local enthusiastic young people, and you could feel some of the Mallorquin climbing community in their work. The last sessions I had at the gym were constellated by screming children (birthday parties must fullfill the big man's pockets) and works to put up a caricature of a gym, each treadmill probably costing as much as 10 yearly wage of the poor people put there to monitor the little demons. Crunchy new holds are sadly not enough to provide a valid climbing experience. I believe a climbing gym has a duty to maintain a relation with the climbing reality of the place that hosts it. Apart for the underpaid staff that manages to reamin emplied for more than 15 minutes (great people, always sad to see them leave), unfortunately there is not much of this place that will transmit positive energy. Cold, heartless corporations come in all forms, and this climbing gym is the proof that not even the down to earth activity of climbing is...
Read moreThe place has good potential, but unfortunately it was not taken advantage of. The wall angles are quite good, but the problems are scarce and either too easy or too comp-y (big dynos on big slopers) with nothing inbetween.
The training area is adequate, but is clearly an afterthought. It's next to the entrance so always crowded with people who are not even training. There is a huge spray board with various angles which is good, but it needs smaller holds and micro foot jibs for effective training. A standardized board like the moon- or kilterboard is also missing.
There is an insanely large kids climbing area, which I guess is the main income source for this gym to be fair.
Also, a minor but grating point, the music is so obnoxious, I would prefer no music at all.
This boils down to a less than ideal experience for more serious climbers and makes it hard to justify picking it as the main training gym. If the above points could be fixed, it would make this establishment easily the only choice for...
