As many have said, Fuerteventura airport is very modern with lots of shops and a spacious airy feel, but on arrival to the island we were made to stand in a queue of over 400 people, at least w flights whilst going thru airport control... with only 4 gates working, this took over an hour, and as someone said previously, when you did get to the guard just a quick stamp on the passport before being waved thru, the guard then waited another minute or so, before calling the next person thru. Longest wait ever when reaching a destination. Then on departure, got to airport nice and early for check in, told check in would be in around 45-50 minutes... 90 minutes later someone appeared at the check in desk, and after having a 10 minute chat with her supervisor then proceeded to check our luggage in, without even a smile... then when I asked where to next, she just waved her hand vaugley towards the security area said something in Spanish and called the next passengers forward, this was just the start of the experience. Next we had security bag checking, 2 conveyor belts, and 1 person scanner, out of the 6 belts and 3 scanners in the area, and majorly aggressive, rude staff. The lady telling you what went where spoke in such a strong Spanish accent, I thought she was still speaking Spanish, and when you got to putting your things in the trays, you found that you had the wrong things in or not the right things so everyone had to fish in their hand luggage for the right things. Even though this held everything up, you still had a wait to go thru the scanner... the lady behind me, was being told in a very brusque manner by a female guard to open her case, when the lady asked where the guard wanted to examine the case, she received no reply, so she started to undo the case where she was, only to be shouted at by the guard and told to put on the desk in front of her by slamming her hand down numerous times on the counter. We then finally get thru, to walk past another 6 conveyor 3 scanner area, manned by a number of staff, that is closed...! Then thru to the duty free trap, where of course you have to walk past all of the merchandise before getting to your gates, so you pick up a couple of bits, get to the tills and all of the automated tills are closed with just one staffed one open, with two ladies serving, on one till as one of the ladies is training, so she takes forever to do anything... this airport could be so much better, and this would stop travellers like me having to take to Google to complain...I have seen previous complaints get given a email address to raise their complaints on, why not just sort it instead, as it seems that the reviews previously posted this year are falling on...
Read moreHaving seen many good reviews of Fuertaventura airport , I was sadly very disappointed with our experience. On inbound arrival we queued for over an hour and following mis-directedion found only 3 passport control booths to handle all flights to be managed very poorly. Then on our departure it started well. Very quick through baggage drop and personal security. Then very oddly a confusing .”Go to gateB “ , a little vague ? But all that was displaying on the board in the food hall. When we weren’t flying for nearly 3 hrs, seemed a little premature, however we chose very wisely to follow our reps advice to get a light bite before heading immediately to passport control . This was very beneficial and perhaps where others encountered the panic leading to panic . “Gate B security” was again a huge queue of over an hour where the officers ( 3 of for what seemed to be all flights ,were working extremely hard ) none of the electronic passport scanners in operation.?? Then to add to a already stressful time None of the boards after passport control were in use and now everyone had NO idea whatsoever which gate they were flying from. Tannoy kept announcing flights only to change gate numbers on numerous occasions. Either the aircraft kept moving stands or administrative department not following a planned schedule. Needless a lot of people running around late to gate or confused. Jet2 reps were amazing and produced a white board with flight details. Staff in general worked hard to adapt to what seemed to be very poor Managerial administration. Based on our information from Jet2 reps we were able to locate the correct gate and in ample time. Good job because at B1 we were unable to now hear any tannoy announcement at all and electronic board still none operational. Flights were boarding for over an hour each and frantic passengers running around which has to be a hazard. Our resort and hotel was amazing. Flight and travel staff were amazing. Airport staff worked hard but the general administration and management organisation was simply the poorest I have, in 40 yrs ,ever experienced.I shall not be returning to this Island unless we can guarantee the airport accepts its failings and makes necessary changes. Having travelled the world over and flown from higher volume/remote locations I have simply never experienced such organised chaos. Management need to take a hard look at this and work hard on improving...
Read moreWhilst the airport is clean, well featured with shops, duty free and eateries....I can only score 1. We queued around 45 minutes to stop the bags...more down to the operator (easyJet) than the airport. Next up security.... wasn't as bad as some reviews have said but I I imagine it could stall under pressure. The shops and cafes were good if a little well subscribed. Recommend the iced coffee at La Mamon. Out flight was delayed so we were watching the info boards The moment it was posted we set off for the gates. I wish the easyJet desk had suggested going straight to the gate as the queue for passport control was 1.5 to 2 hours. ( We've never been through here before) There were 4 laid back men.... casually checking passports.... casually stamping..... casually passing back the passports. Meanwhile a dozen or so automatic scanners were sat idle next to them. Apparently they were installed a few months ago but are yet to see use. Flights were delayed....people were agitated, obviously, and the airport guy didn't seem to care....but did protect an empty lane like his life depended on it. It was only when the Airline reps turned up to see where all the passengers were that things started to improve. And why isn't passport control after security....like most airports? Couldn't organise a bunfight in a bakery. Word of warning....if you have the unfortunate need to travel through here....go straight to the gate ( if it's a B) . You'll miss the opportunity to get duty free, food and any last minute shopping...but the 2 hours queuing will be...
