My wife and I love good food so when we went to Seville we booked an iberico ham tour with A Question of Taste. Roger picked us up from our hotel and took us first to visit a family-run farm where they breed Iberian pigs. We walked around the beautiful property before trying some excellent ham and the best Spanish omelette I’ve ever had. We then went to a nearby ham factory where we saw the whole process of curing from beginning to end. There were absolutely thousands of hams hanging up! We also tried some of the ham with a glass of dry sherry. As Roger pointed out, this is a great match. We then headed to a restaurant for lunch where Roger seemed to be good friends with everyone. In fact, he didn’t order any food, it just came. It was all delicious and included some incredible local tomatoes as well as other vegetable dishes and different cuts of Iberian pork. We also drank some great Spanish wine. On the way back to Seville we both dozed off in the car! Roger is a great guy to be with. He knows his stuff and he made the day really enjoyable. We’ve been on lots of food and wine tours and this was one...
Read moreDay trip to Jerez de la Frontera or simply Jerez, city and municipality in the province of Cádiz in the community of Andalusia, in southwestern Spain, located midway between the Atlantic Ocean and the Cádiz Mountains. Known for its picturesue landscape and more famously the centre of the universe for Sherry! Visited two different wineries with our new friend Roger Davies from A Question of Taste.
First stop was Lustau Jerez making a fantastic array of sherries for every taste. While not the largest, very well respected and a wide range of sherries. Fascinating history and over 2000 casks aging in the ”cathedral”.
Second stop, a small very high quality producer of sherry and brandies. Fernando de Castella. Knock out brandy and several aged sherries Roger then took us for a delightful outdoor patio lunch in Central old town Jerez. Wandering around the ancient city, its own Alcazar and Cathedral.
If you have a chance to travel in the region, we highly recommend calling Roger to be your guide. A...
Read moreRoger, planned, organised and conducted us on a fantastic trip around the Rioja wine region. Having done a similar trip around Galicia a couple of years ago we were expecting a special trip, which we got!. Roger met us at Bilbao airport and for the next 4 days drove us around Rioja, we spent two nights in Laguardia, a beautiful old town and two in Haro. We visited a mixture of the more modern wineries, Bhilar, Artuke, Abel Mendoza where we were able to meet and talk to the owners/wine makers. We also visited the more historic such as Vina Tondonia.
Everything was well organised from start to finish with interesting meals in local restaurants and a “tapas crawl”. On the last night we ate in a local restaurant, Restaurante Terete, where the lamb was excellent and Roger managed to arrange a tour of the restaurants extensive cellar that runs under the surrounding roads and house.
Roger enthusiasm, knowledge and local contacts made for an exceptional trip and we will certainly do another...
