Gothenburg is known as Scandinavia’s capital of craft beer. More than a whopping 30 local breweries are located in the city and all of them are trying their best to give you a good drink. Many of them are inviting you to visit as well, such as Vega bryggeri. At their location on Hisingen, they invite you to some food, activities and - of course - beers.
With it’s location on Ringön it’s not the easiest to reach tap room. Most locals tend to go by bike or taxi, or alternatively through a 2km walk from Hjalmar Brantingsplatsen. Personally, as a strict non-drinker, I find the car quite suitable to reach it. But with whatever mode you arrive at Vega, make sure to check their opening times, as they are scarce. But if you happen to find yourself there during their opening times, you will be greeted by a cosy and industrial-looking restaurant/brewery.
They have a variety of their beers on tap, and even their alcohol-free IPA can be ordered on draft. Very thoughtful and worth it!
The food menu is changing often, so you might be unlucky to find something you really don’t want, or lucky to find something you really do want. But mostly it’s pub food, so burgers, tacos and the likes. There is always one vegan option available, and it is often promoted prominently with ingredients by Anamma for their protein. If you like that brand you are in luck.
In my case, it was tacos when I was eating at Vega. Three of them, simple vegan meat focused filling, and served with a side salad. The tortilla was hand made and the overall composition pretty great to be fair. Focus clearly on the “meat”, but the light touches with pickled onion and avocado gave it balance. Overall quite good tacos, but obviously nothing too fancy or spectacular. Coming at an affordable price point, you can’t really go wrong here,
All in all, Vega is not only brewing decent beers, they also serve decent vegan food in their restaurant. While you won’t be blown away generally, it is still a great place to hang out, play some pinball and have a pub-food snack with an alcohol-free beer on tap.
Vega bryggeri oozes Gothenburg charme. It’s a place to really showcase what makes the city so unique. The industrial vibe, the alternative way of handling things, the people and the hospitality. It’s a fantastic place to hangout and invite friends to, maybe go to a concert? When it comes to the food, it is of good quality, especially compared to well-established pubs and they clearly take pride in it. However, it can be a bit of a hit or miss depending on the menu and it’s likely not the main reason for you to come here. Still, you will get a good total experience. So, support...

Read moreI visited Vega Bryggeri yesterday as part of the annual Isle of Dogs event and it was a great experience. Everyone was so welcoming, the beer was excellent, and they even had the quiz questions written in English for those of is whose Swedish is lacking.
I was there alone with my dog and I especially appreciated that the manager(?)/owner(?) watched my dog for a couple of minutes while I went to the loo. Not sure I gave him a choice 😂 but it was really kind of him anyway. We will definitely be back and I’ll bring my...
