Located in the French speaking Swiss hamlet of Lens, the Chalet des Alpes B&B offers easy walking to this extremely quaint village. We stayed Oct 7&8 2017. ||Pros – The owners speak English and French, are friendly and very helpful with offering suggestions on sights to see in the area (thank you Gary!) All 2nd floor rooms (like ours) provide a beautiful mountain view off their private balconies. So does the 1st floor common area/dining room (also with a large balcony). Although very much Swiss styled, the Chalet des Alpes is modern construction and comes with amenities you would expect (including very good WiFi). Our room was average sized, nicely styled, had a comfortable bed, and a nicely tiled bathroom (a shower only, no tub). Again, everything is newer and nice looking. The B&B is far enough away from the main road to be quiet from traffic noise, yet is still within easy walking distance of the small village center, restaurants, and excellent hiking options. There is free parking on site, always welcome when driving around Europe.||Cons – A traditional Continental breakfast is included of course, but I personally prefer a hot protein option (at least some scrambled eggs). ||Attractions - There are many. There are numerous villages and towns to visit, restaurants to try, shops to explore, and virtually unlimited hiking options in this area. There is certainly enough to do for an extended stay. Just keep in mind that this area of Switzerland is best explored by car; train & bus options may be limited. We definitely enjoyed our stay at Chalet des Alpes and...
Read moreI came to ski in Crans Montana upon referral from a friend who had been there just before and has family in the area.||It seemed like a good place for its lack of being a major international destination, so you had a lot of local tourists and a low-key feel.||||The chalet is located in a small village (Lens) outside of Crans Montana town proper, and has a great view to the West overlooking the valley between 2 major ski stations (Anzere and Crans-Montana).||||The owners/managers were brilliant, made us feel very welcome and were very organized.||The chalet itself is quite a new building with very good facilities and comfort, including a ski storage room which is kept dry and warm in order to dry your gear out overnight.||It is also a B&B establishment, so their rates include breakfast (continental).||They also offer dinner, as long as you provide sufficient notice.||||Overall, my gf and I were very impressed, and would love to go back at some point in the future.||We were there only for a short stay (3 nights), but having to leave to go back to work the next day...
