This shop is pretty much what you'd expect from a shop in the Pendle area called Witches Galore. It's a small two-roomed gift shop crammed with all things witch from the sublime to the downright ridiculous. There is likely something for everyone willing to look in every nook and cranny, from trinkets and ornaments, magnets and tea towels to a decent book section. Cold drinks and ice creams are also available.
The woman behind the counter was knowledgeable about the book we bought, Mist Over Pendle, and advised us to visit the local church as it is featured in the book.
Google Maps led us straight to the shop without problems but be warned that local roads are narrow and often steep. Please don't be one of those people who thinks it's ok to drive in the middle of the road or at silly speeds when navigating the lanes. Luckily we were able to park very close to the shop so we didn't have to expend copious amounts of energy on one of the hottest days of the year climbing one the steep slopes up to the hill. I impressed myself with my clutch control when getting into and out of the space but was grateful for the car's hill start function.
Although we didn't use them there were toilets next to the shop, presumably for a small charge as is normal in this county. The church is a very short walk from the shop and well worth a visit too.
If you are in the area looking for souvenirs this is a must-visit and as far as I'm aware the only shop of its...
Read moreThis shop has always been my go to place when visiting family each year. However on this occasion it was a terrible experience. After lockdown was lifted my husband and I arranged to visit family in Lancashire, whilst there we planned to take our two dogs up Pendle Hill and finish with my usual visit to this shop. As small businesses have been heavily effected in all this, I wanted to make sure I supported these small shops, especially this one, so I had some good money saved to spend. However as I am exempt from wearing a mask for reasons I do not wish to divulge. I entered and explained I was exempt but would keep my distance from anyone as required. They insisted I could not shop there without one, they were extremely rude and unsympathetic. I explained the government guidelines that this was discrimination and they still did not care! This is utter discrimination against people with mental health issues, medical issues and PTSD. I will be sending an official letter of complaint as if I can help anyone out there suffering in silence and being refused to shop at free will, then this will be worth it! This will also be going viral on all...
Read moreThe owner closed the door in our faces and locked up! It was 2pm in the afternoon, closing time is 5. I asked if she was closing for the whole day, she simply ignored myself and several other customers, turned out the lights and disappeared. Even if she were unwell, surely it it good manners to simply SAY SO and not literally close the door in customers faces! One lady had come all the way from Kent and had been looking forward to visiting the shop. She said she will not be returning after treatment like that. She tried phoning the shop to ask if everything was ok, but the owner hung up on her! All the signs were still outside the shop, so the Owner's bizarre behavour will have to remain a mystery. Maybe she was upset about something, but again, you APOLOGISE not just shut the shop door in people's faces! OR put a notice up explaining that something has made you need to close in an emergency. There were at least another six people behind me, one little girl of about 4 actually cried because she wanted to buy a witch for her Gran. Very rude and unnecessary customer care...maybe she no longer...
