Dungeness is the place where nature and a nuclear power station decided to co-parent a beach. Shingle and nothingness as far as the eye can see. It's an coalition of poetry-inspiring isolation, desolation, and emptiness. Which is the attraction really. Sea cabbage, everywhere dots of sea cabbage, intermingling with abandoned boats that look like they gave up on life in 1973, and shacks that could either be art installations or Ed Sheeran's recording studio-- no one really knows, not even the ghosts that roam the pebbles. Even the wind seems confused about why itās here, but donāt worryāitāll still slap you all over the place.
Food-wise, thereās a fish shack where you can pay Ā£12 for something that died staring at the nuclear power station. The taste? Good, no extra limbs grew out of my armpit the next day either.
If youāve ever wanted to feel like youāre starring in a post-apocalyptic arthouse/zombie apocalypse film while eating a surprisingly decent fish finger sandwich, this is where...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLovely landscape ideal for walking and wildlife watching. There are two lighthouses you can visit and some fascinating buildings, please respect residents privacy when viewing the properties. There is a cafe/seafood bar, we didn't visit so can't comment on prices. The Dymchurch train stops here and there is a place to get food and drink at the train stop. There is also a couple of pubs but the one near the lighthouses closes early. A few famous people have properties here so you never know who you might bump into! It's such a vast area it's usually quite tranquil and if your patient you can get a nice photo of the many birds that can be found here. It's a beautiful place and often referred to as a desert. Great to take time away from the hustle and bustle of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSuch an interesting place that I will never get tired of. At first it looks like emptiness, but thereās so much history and quirky sights to explore from the lighthouses, buildings and wrecks, and the wildflowers in the spring are beautiful. A great place for photographers and artists of all kind with many residents displaying their own artwork for sale. The beach itself is lovely and relaxing, often busy-ish at peak times but evenings are so peaceful. I would recommend Dungeness beach if this sounds like your thing! If youāre planning on using this beach for swimming however, I would not recommend, but you will be sure to see seals and maybe porpoises depending on the time of year so nice to just sit on the beach and take...
