Stunning - be sure to cycle round the loch and bring a SUP. Kudos to the parks for creating perfect parking spaces to access the water with SUP. Camping in this area is almost impossible with all sites full. Which is a stress if you are heading this way.
@Aviemore parks. Because local facilities are over whelmed....how about adding a water point, waste collection and rubbish facilities to each site and charged £20 per night per motorhome like they do in many more RV enlightened parts of the world like Canada, US, NZ, Spain's surf spots and Aus. You would tap a huge market. Create many local jobs serving the RVers and bring huge revenues locally. We must have spent circa £300 in 2 days in Aviemore on refueling, shopping, food and eating out. You could enforce this using existing parking management tech and booking apps.
At the moment the policy of come visit for the day is not working because the infrastructure is missing. Add waste, water, and toilets along with ranges to help politely educate the idiots that spoil things and collect revenue s would be a win win.
We headed to Aviemore as part of First Ministers spend locally in the Highlands etc... But could not find a single campsite with availability..... Sadly the locals do not want your motorhome stopping here overnight and smashed our side mirror at 3am..... Still we had a lovely memorable time and feel blessed to have had such fun here.
We have since learned that Forestry Scotland is welcoming RVs to their sites free for 2020 as they pilot the idea. If your an RVer be sure to see which...
Read moreWe came here based on the promise of walks around the loch. The walk we went on did go around the lake and was a very pleasant woodland walk, but not much of it had the lake actually in view. There was pay and display parking, but the cash only machine we tried didn't work. There was a sign alongside the machine that claimed we could pay at the visitor centre, but didn't say where that was or give directions to it. The walk around the loch took a couple of hours. There was an abundance of fungi growing in the woodland we went through. At one end of the loch, there was a water sports centre with a wide expanse of sand around it, lots of picnic tables and a cafe. On the "beach" there was a sign saying the area was a site of special scientific interest and directed people to where they could camp with minimal environmental impact. The sign also directed people to use the on-site toilets and not to pee in the loch or woods. The sign didn't say where the toilets were. Not helpful. We ended up using the cafe toilets, in error. Overall, it's a very nice place and...
Read moreAbsolutely stunning place, was recommended to stop here whilst visiting Scotland for the first time a couple months back. Just looking through my pics and felt I had to share this cracker I'm proud of!
Plenty of spots to park, lots of bank to set up a lil picnic if the weather is on your side.
This place is a must visit even if you just happen to be passing like we did.
Thank you...
