The Montrose Playhouse | Cinema & Art Centre — Local services in Great Britain

We and our children used to go swimming here. Then a few years ago, after the new pool was built it was turned into a cinema, and this was my first visit. It is not just a cinema but a live music venue as well, which you get a peek of as you pass through the foyer. It looked enticing, but that will be for another visit. Some of the fittings from the swimming pool have been repurposed, with the diving board converted to a long bench outside the screens. The screens themselves were roomy, lots of leg space between the seating rows. The seats were very comfortable and projection and sound were high quality. Tickets for our visit were £5, not sure if that was a special offer but good value. One little niggle was the addition of a 15% service charge to the ticket price after the sale. The website is a mess and does not show upcoming films/plays in a easy to read format, it is all over the place, all I need to know is what is being shown in the next month or more. The scrolling is terrible and the the previews are nearly non existent, I saw one on the site that was functioning.. Yes I have tried different browsers and it is all the same. I was able to view upcoming plays on the website a while ago now I cannot find them. Look at other websites especially The Curzon and see how it is done properly. Best cinema ever!! What an amazing town/community cinema. Very clean, seating is comfy, better than any chain. I absolutely love the quirky decorations, especially the upcycling of the old swimming pool items (for those who dont know, the building was the old Montrose Swimming pool) Bar/Cafe looks lovely, although I have yet to sit down and get a drink. There is a big room at the back which would be great for birthdays, celebrations, meetings etc. And a little area of art and other items from local artists and crafters.
