Staff - was in on wed 9th march afternoon and the 2 girls were polite. But the 2 males on the Thu 10th March were terrible. Was waiting at bar for a good few mins when someone appeared from the kitchen with plates the n walked back to the kitchen and appeared with more plates - he walked past me and didn't say anything, not '2secs' or 'be with you in min' after he appeared the 2nd time someone else came up and went round bar and just stared at me - didn't say 'sorry for your wait'....ok then.
Food - 1st time I got sweet potato fries and garlic bread - was nice but abit soft. 2nd time had the Mac n cheese - cheap stringy cheese, bland bland bland, and burning the top of it, this to make it look fancy? Poured half a jar pepper on it and still didn't improve the taste. Side salad was dressed - that's what you call dressed? It was soaking. Garlic bread was undercooked.
Back to staff - we sat there for a good amount of time and no-one approached the table to ask if the food was ok, as my mrs had left more than half of the food. The guy actually went to walk over to us and stopped like he didn't want to know it was bad and walked away - the plates were pushed to the side of table so he should have realised we weren't eating it anymore. The table behind us left a good chunk of food aswell, and dishes sat there for a awhile aswell. Place only had like 4/5 tables worth of people so it wasn't busy.
The building. - big, good amount of tables, loads of screens for sports. There's 2 doors outside, 1 that leads upstairs and 1 that's on the main bar area. If your upstairs you need to leave the building and go down the other door to get to the toilet if you have mobility issues. Decent location, near the station and just at the end of the main area of town.
Lucky it wasn't 1 star - was still tempted to tho if it wasn't for the girls one the first visit..with it being prob the biggest pub in the area (and it's chain, Greene king) I actually expected better, been to a few of these pubs and always had a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI normally just walk away from a less than good experience, but yesterday was an interesting experience and worthy of note. It's a large airy sort of place, which I doubt has been decorated since the 80s (or someone has decorated it to look like an 80s pub). It felt shabby, but not in a bad way. There are some nice nooks if you want to get away from the large number of TV screens present, but it's impossible to get away from them completely, or the noise of them.
My partner placed a food order and got the drinks in...the coffee I had was obviously from grindings already used. We then waited and waited and eventually I went and queried where the meal had got to. The bar staff were very friendly and earned this establishment those three stars for service. They were also very honest and told me clearly there had been a "mix up" and that if we hadn't had our food in 10 minutes they would give us a refund. The food appeared 15 minutes later and I nearly fell off my seat...a microwaved lasagne (which was barely edible...I finished off what my partner could not), a childs meal, which was OK and a cheese and bacon burger, the like of which I haven't seen in twenty years with a handful of over cooked french fries (not the rosemary and salted chips advertised) and watered down barbeque sauce...it was sub-McDonalds, but I ate it to be polite to my partner (whose idea going here was) and because I seriously doubt anything better was going to be forthcoming. Not much change out of £40 when we could have gone to McDonalds and got the same for £20 or less.
In the age of internet reviews I am amazed a place like this still exists. What's really frightening for Montrose is that my partner and others tell me this is the best place in town for a relatively cheap meal and a drink. I'll stick to the chippy in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNow, I'm putting it out there, I am a Wetherspoons' Patron and I give no excuse for frequenting a Greene King Bar other than there is no Wetherspoons in Montrose.
I have to apologize as well for the photo. I forgot to take one before but I hope the after meal shot says more!
A surprisingly sunny day in Montrose, a little windy. Google maps pointed us in the direction of The Picture House. It's well positioned just across from the Tesco's.
The decor is welcoming and at two in the afternoon had an active atmosphere. Took the booth at the back on the left. Phone out and app at the ready. Kept it lite as my wife and I had a bit of a walk to do and didn't want to eat too much.
Two of the Lunch Club's Southern Fried Chicken wraps with a smokey BBQ sauce, a side of fries and a large coke. We had a pleasurable meal. The Coke was cold and draught but was not weak in flavour which is sometimes the case. The chips/fries were just right, crisp edge, fluffy inside and the wraps, the chicken, perfection with the smokey sauce, mmmm... Total cost, £17.28 Slightly dearer than a similar purchase at a Spoons but well worth it.
This has no reflection on the Staff but there was a slight delay to orders as unfortunately the Chef was on his own preparing food. But I think in light of this, the service was exceptional. Definitely will return for another helping of The...
