I truly am in love with this area. It’s a beautiful area with stunning views and lakes, all carefully and compassionately nurtured and maintained by The National Trust. Over the years either with family or just my wife and myself, I guess we have visited this area, mostly in hired cottages, over 50 times. At 72 we are too old to take to the high level walks and Wainrights, but there are so many lower level and relatively flat walks that we continue to enjoy it to the full. We normally base ourselves in Ambleside or Keswick both of which have more than enough shops, supermarkets, pubs and restaurants to support us for our usual 2 week break. Parking at some voyages is not always easy or is on road. Four places that have great locations with easy parking are Gretaside apartments, Brewery Cottages, Bobbin Cottage in Keswick and Otters Holt in the centre of Ambleside. The Horse and Farrier at Threckeld, just outside Keswick, is our favourite hotel / pub / restaurant. The Red Lion and Kings Arms ( undergoing ownership change at time of writing ) and the lovely welcoming B&B, the old school house that once taught William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian. Don’t die wondering, with stunning views, great food, friendly welcoming people and masses of activities including water sports and lake cruises - make that visit Tip - If you are travelling up the A1 to turn left at Scotch Corner to take you straight to Keswick and are self catering, stop at Mainsgill farm shop to stock up on some amazing produce to enjoy at your cottage or campsite. It’s huge and has great outside grounds with a zip slide for the children and amazing very big Cafe / Shop / Restaurant. Most regular Lakes visitors...

And what about enforcing some of the long-standing and blatant planning infringements which, even the LDNPA admits, are in contravention of its own guidelines and regulations? (Illegal, ugly and intrusive roadside advertising on A591 at Ings and nocturnal light pollution at Plantation Bridge, to...
